There are only a few platinum coins available in the market. The Canadian Maple Leaf, the American Eagle and the Australian Platypus. The Platypus coin is usually the cheapest although it is the only coin which comes with a specially designed plastic capsule to protect the coin from dirt and fingerprints. Although it is always possible to find a suitable plastic capsule in the secondary market, I prefer to buy a coin which comes with a dedicated plastic capsule. Finally, the minting quality of Perth mint coins is unrivaled. All the three factors, low premium over spot, high quality minting and a dedicated protective plastic capsule are the main reasons for me to favor the Platypus among the platinum coins. Finally, a remark regarding the future value of platinum. The main application of platinum is catalytic converters. Since combustion engines have no future (to much pollution), chances are that the demand for platinum may go down in the future. So the price potential of platinum could be a little bit restrained in comparison to gold.Read full review

In my opinion, the Australian Platypus is currently one of the most attractive 1oz coins available in platinum today. Anyone investing in platinum should consider this coin while the price is low over spot!

Ugly but beautiful. It's platinum which is the same size as a maple. A good one to have in the world collection

We like the affordability and the rarity of Platinum. When the markets/banks crash we will have the right to passage with the gold, platinum, and silver coinage. Do not doubt the if but count on the when.....
