I highly recommend this machine. I will have to say the first purchase should be a 512 solid state hard drive. $110 for a Scan Disk brand which I myself am using, and go up to $150 for the Samsung brand. Very easy to install. Youtube has great step by step instructions for this model of Asus. It's definitely a beloved Laptop. The speed difference makes this already great machine, untouchable. I took the one terabyte that came with the computer and put it into a $12 external hard drive case. Now I have all the memory I could possibly use. Not to mention my computer is so fast that the only complaint I have is when I use other people's laptops or desktops I get frustrated quickly just because I'm not used to how slow everything else is now. Yes, this Asus has made me impatient. I have no problem with that either. And I'm pretty sure you won't either. My new Asus Q551LN is instant on and instant off now. It's even faster than my Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 inch when it comes to simple booting! So go ahead yuppies, keep your MacBooks and your gas hogging Range Rovers. While you do that I'll enjoy my early retirement from all the research and money I've saved.Read full review

Pros: 10 point Full Touch 15.6 inch Full HD IPS Display driven by NVIDIA GT840M w/integrated Intel graphics on board. 8 Gb 1666 DDR3 , 5th Gen i7 CPU 2.4 G -3.2 Ghertz, with a 1 TB 5400 HDD makes this a relatively evenly loaded well balanced laptop. With a 360 rotation display you can fold the notebook in half and it converts to use the onscreen keyboard for full touch tablet handling. There are 3 high speed USB3 ports, and HDMI interface, ethernet plugin and an extra speaker for a good listening environment. Besides this it comes loaded with a DVD burner and a card reader. The touch pad is very responsive and the keyboard has an on-board controllable back light. 8.1 Win which immediately upgrades to Win10 and Nuance Dragon. It has superb cooling an the polymer battery lasts about 4.5 hours. Connectivity is ample with Bluetooth, High Speed Wireless, and 10/100/1000 fast RJ-45. Voice command, Gesture and touch and drivers finish up the package. Also its all brushed aluminum. I bought this unit at an extremely good price in the high $600's and thus I have no real complaint because it is the ultimate package for the bucks spent. If you want a super computer, just switch the 1 TB HDD for a 1TB SSD but that will; cost you between 250-350 extra. As well you can add 4 more GB of DDR3 to max the memory at 12GB. This machine is great, operates flawlessly and has everything needed. I also have a MacBook Pro, i7 processor and just about the same specs for comparison. Design and operation the ASUS is the opposite twin brother of the Mac. Art 5 lbs it is a bit lighter but that's because I have a 17" screen on my MacBook. Because of the touch capabilities, I like the ASUS better; its just slightly newer tech. Battery life is around 4.5 hours for the ASUS and that's average, not great, but there is an automatic energy saving system that dims the monitor and back lighting to give you some extra time. HDMI output gives you multiple monitor and home TV interplay so its just right for your multi-media station. When you get this package, the back-lighting might not work and some commands may not be active when you switch top Win10 but ASUS has the up-dated drivers to make it all happen accordingly so the machine is running great. I'm a fan.Read full review
