I was about to buy the homeowner $32 Black & Decker Lithium ion screwdriver - but at the last minute, I stumbled upon this "pro" tool. There are a few things about the DeWalt gyroscopic screwdriver that made me spend the more money than I had planned. 1. Hands down, the gyroscopic feature is extremely easy to use and a very convenient way to work. I had no trouble getting used to it as it is intuitive (right turn to tight, left to loosen). You can really control the speed just by lightly turning the handle (once you're used to the tool, you can have the bit turn extremely slow which is very useful). 2. The tool has an LED light which is activated when you use the tool and lasts 20 seconds after you stop. Most of the time the built in flashlight eliminates the need for a second flashlight in your toolbag. 3. The tool has a clutch. Useful when screwing into more delicate items. 4. The handle can be set straight or pistol grip. On a lot of spur of the moment uses - you never know which position is going to be more comfortable - and its nice to have this option. 5. Lithium ion battery means longer shelf life. As a homeowner mine will sit unused for a month - and then put to use. Li batteries don't loose their charge as easily as Ni-cad. So if sitting for 3 months and its needed - there is a great chance the Li battery is still good to go. 6. Well built. This thing looks like it could take a drop, and then some. 7. The tool comes with a snap on (removable) bit carrier that works well. I leave one in the chuck, then two other bit options in the carrier. For the Cons - there are only two.... 8. One 8v Lithium Ion battery with this refurb kit might be a problem for some who need longer periods of use to go uninterrupted. Not me - as a homeowner the single battery is probably all I ever need. 9. When purchasing this refurbished tool - I had hoped this may be a "like new" tool that the seller might be branding "refurbished" so as to get around min advertised pricing rules. Nope. This tool did have some very light wear marks - and the body has a very noticeable "R" (assume for "refurbished) heat etched into it (see attached photo of mine, just behind the clutch ring). No big deal for me, as the tool seems to work perfectly. I am concerned the batter might empty quicker than a new one, but so far, so good. 10. Last but not least - the lower price from CPO. This reconditioned tool was approx 63 dollars - compared to 89 dollars plus tax for a two battery kit on the "big A" website. So I saved 32 dollars over that lowest price (again not getting the second battery and putting up with the "R" etching). Again - perfect for me who will only use this awesome tool here and there at home. If I was using this for work - I'd have probably bought the new one because of the need for a second battery.Read full review

I received the Screwdriver and put it on the charger. When I finally went to use it for the first time, it did not work properly. Pressing the forward/reverse trigger (HARD) for several seconds it would finally begin turning slowly. Eventually and erratically it would get to full speed as long as you pressed very hard on the trigger. Reconditioned??

It takes a little getting used to but I found it great for the smaller things, as I'm a general contractor, like cabinet hardware, drilling small pilot holes, electric work, etc... bought the extra battery and the case was a bonus!!! Great buy and just hope it holds up!

Like most people I have "tested" too many power screwdrivers to count. From rechargables w_out replaceable batteries, some of which were quite robust and ergonomic bit died. To modified drills and impact wrenches, "that could also" drive screws w_'out buggering the heads. I have owned and worn out some great tools from Snap On, Skill, B&D (although quote large I loved their big 'FireStorm Screwdriver'), Craftsman, Milwaukee, Dakota, Hitachi and Ryobi. Believe it or not, I wore these power screwdrivers out BEFORE the NiCad, NiMH, or Li batteries wore out or became unavailable!!! This tool captures ALL of the best features of the others that I have Owned. 1. It has a powerful replaceable Lithium Ion btry that charges quickly. 2. Adj torque clutch 3. LED work lights 4. 90_180 deg handle options 5. Quick. Change screwdriver chuck. 6.power gauge 7. Nice accessory bag 8 gyroscopic control WITH variable speed 9. Dewalt quality, reputation and service. I own two as professional gunsmith and have bought four others as gifts. Simply the best tool of its type for the best price on the market!Read full review

I've had this Dewalt gyroscopic screwdriver for a few weeks now and I have used it almost everyday. I have no real complaints only two minor issues if you could call them that. 1) you can tell it was referbished because it has someone's initial "R" engraved on it 2) the manual is a copy and not the original Neither of this are a deal breaker for me at all I just felt like I should mention them.
