We owned the Jura ENA 4 and have found this to be a better machine in terms of coffee flavor and convenience of use. The water tank is a bit small and you have to refill it before it gets to the bottom of its capacity (at least two cups). Also, the drip tray needs to be emptied after several uses, but by and large, this was a good purchase. One caveat, although the seller advertised it was "under warranty" the people at Saeco have refused to honor it. Their customer service responded that any machine bought on Ebay voids their warranty regardless of whether it is new in the box with papers or not. After reading the warranty language, I was disappointed to find this was true. It is best to simply fill out the warranty card itself and register the machine with them, but leave blank where it was purchased from.Read full review
Over the past five years we have purchased two Saeco Italias, one Saeco Easy and our most current coffee machine, the Talea Touch -- all on eBay. We bought a second Italia when our first Italia was in storage because we simply can't ive without a Saeco -- this machine was sold on eBay, keeping the older one for our continued use. Finally, our five year old Italia's electronic "brain" went into warp and we bought the Easy. The Easy served us well for 18 months before we took it to the recycling center. Then we bought the Talea Touch. Obviously, we love the basic features of Saeco's automatic coffee machines, and the Talea Touch is clearly the best yet. First, some words of caution. If you, like us, have very hard water, frequent cleaning is absolutely essential. Our Easy died because we failed to clean it frequently enough, then cleaning dislodged built-up deposits, blocking the very fine tubing of the water delivery system. Repair was possible, but repair costs are based on the price of a Saeco bought from Saeco, not on eBay. Further, Saeco will not give a product warranty even for a "new in box" Saeco purchased on eBay. However, given the price differential (we paid less than 50% of the cost of a Talea by purchasing on eBay) we believe this is an acceptable risk -- as long as you keep the machine free of any calcium build-up. So which ever Saeco you buy, keep it very clean! Obviously, we are very serious coffee drinkers, so we tend to leave our Saeco machines on all the time -- 24/7. Water sitting in a hot machine tends to precipitate calcium faster than if one turned off the machine when not in use. Saeco has recognized this fact, and the Talea goes to a "rest state" after a user-determined amount of time. The Talea heats up in less than a minute, so this model causes us no inconvenience. We wonder if we had turned off our Easy when we left the kitchen after breakfast and turned it on when we came home for lunch if it still would be functioning. All Saecos make fabulous coffee. For breakfast we make red-eyes -- one shot of espresso in one cup of coffee. The Talea makes this easy -- the strength of each brew -- espresso, coffee and tall coffee can be programmed. The Talea is an awesome espresso machine, for morning, noon and after dinner espresso. We have no other coffee makers except a French press which we use now only when we are "between Saecos". In conclusion, buy your Saeco on eBay without worrying about the warranty -- BUT KEEP IT CLEAN! The Talea is a fabulous coffee maker, and we love ours more than any Saeco we have ever owned.Read full review
I ordered this online after doing a lot of research on the "other" brands and models. seattlecoffeegear.com was an awesome website to perform the research as I found it extremely challanging to find a site that rated all the units available in the auto espresso maker arena. The unit is fairly large. You put the beans on the top, fill the water resevoir, set the motorized drip tray/coffee holder at the right level, insert the water filter that comes with the unit and you're ready to start playing with the touch screen. You can program coffee, espresso, and tall coffee's aroma and temperature settings. I love my coffee and espresso very hot and the hottest setting was perfect for my tastes (unlike many other units out there). Then, you simply touch the espresso icon twice and it automatically makes two shots of espresso! Nothing else is needed. For the crema, I bought the optional milk island. It was very easy to install. Poor the milk between the low and high lines clearly marked on the bottle. Then turn the steam nob to the left. When the cream is "done", the system shuts itself off, beeps and let you know that you can turn the steam off and remove the cream from the container. I couldn't have been easier. The latte's are amazing. One of the things I like best is that each time you turn the device off, it cleans the unit for you. All you need to do is empty the drip tray a couple of times/week by pooring the grounds in the trash and dumping the water that was used to clean the unit in the sink. Piece of cake! The only complaint I have is that I like to take large coffee mugs to work. If I hit the coffee button 3 times, it fills it perfect. Unfortuntely, the drip tray does not lower enough so that the coffee mug fits under the spout without me holding it at an angle. It's kind of annoying. Finally, the unit allows 10 or so different settings for strength of shots of espresso. This setting can be changed between shots of espresso if desired. I like my shots strong and my wife likes hers weak. It's super easy to toggle. Enjoy. The unit is a little expensive, but the coffee comes out soooo much better then my Capresso coffee maker and the espresso is to die for. Enjoy!Read full review
