I read and did alot of research finally purchasing these. For post production these the best reasonably priced cans you should own. Mainly they can be wore for hours with comfort because of there weight. Open back creates the flat frequency needed for Dialogue. Bass response is flat non colored which is essential for post production mixing. i own these and the 990s and i still prefer. Only thing is the non-detachable 9 ft cable. i wish you can option to purchase with detachable cable feature. i had my modified immediately from a local tech for $40 a pair, well worth the price. Still after the cost of the cable mod cost was around $175 is well worth it. Hands down best cans for film and TV post production!

This is the 4th set of headphones (all are different brands) that I own now. I've been noting the slight sonic differences between brands that I've had time to listen to and compare. Rather than drag other products into this comparison, suffice it to say that these 250-ohm headphones have moved to second place in overall sonic accuracy, and first place in bass and mid-hi response - they are very easy to listen to, crisp, and have an excellent soundstage. So why 5 stars for a second-place finish? The price is very, very good for their sonic quality. The first place in sonic accuracy is a set of $600 cans, so suffice it to say that for the price, these are a VERY good buy IMO. Note that you will absolutely need a good driving headphone amp for these -- they are easier to drive than 600-ohm phones but will probably be too low of an output for some folks. At the price I paid for these, I'm very happy.Read full review

The Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro headphones are really great mid-range headphones. They're very similar to the Sennheiser HD 600 headphones in the way that they're very neutral and linear in their sound stage. I find the DT 880s to be slightly more comfortable than the Sennheiser HD 600s due to the velour pads and a little more attractive because of the aluminum construction. They're extremely well-built and the look and feel is very solid. Additionally, you can get really nice leather ear pads if you prefer those over velour. If you are trying to decide between the DT 880 Pros and the DT 880 Premiums, I would base your decision on whether or not you are going to use a headphone amplifier and also if you plan on using them with a portable source. I would opt for the DT 880 Premium 600 Ohm version if you are only going to be using them at home, and would highly recommend an amp as they would be very hard to drive without one. I even recommend an amp with the Pros as 250 Ohms is still quite high compared to a lot of other headphones. The Total Bithead or Total Airhead by Headroom are both very inexpensive amps that are quality portable amps.Read full review
I rate the 880 Pros (250 ohm) at 5-stars as their ideally suited for my sound system and surroundings. Being semi-open, they offer detail and depth of sound stage like full-open headphones and the punchy lows of enclosed ones. Great to have both. They can even be disassembled for parts upgrades if desired and are quite comfortable to wear. Little or no fatigue.

The right kind of soft foam encased beneath the velour surface of the pads make these headphones feel like you're resting your head on clouds. The leather headband is replaceable should it ever go bad, giving these headphones a long lifetime. The 250-ohm impedance is somewhat difficult to drive, so I highly recommend the Schiit Magni headphone amp or something similar to drive these cans. Without them, they will sound very muddy, but with an amp, they sound godly. Since no headphones have a perfectly flat frequency response curve, these cans sound the best in rock music, in my opinion. However, they don't sound terrible in any other genres, like pop, dance, or rave. Of course, everyone hears differently. While I like them, you may not, so I recommend listening to a pair before jumping the gun and buying one for yourself, though I don't believe these headphones make it difficult to please a wide range of audiences given that they're amplified.Read full review
