The Roku LT 2400R Digital Media Streamer is an amazing little device that brings the world of streaming media to any TV set. It's a great and affordable alternative to cable TV. Setup is a snap. If you have a TV set with HDMI or component RCA inputs, it truly is plug-and-play; however, you do need a computer with an Internet connection to complete the process and activate the box. I should note here that the activation process requires either a credit card or PayPal account to enable online purchases. It's not a deal breaker, but it's one of the reasons I gave the device four stars instead of five. I bought this box because I wanted to be able to watch Netflix in the bedroom. The set there is an older model and only has a coaxial cable input, so I had to get one of those RF modulator adapters to plug the included component RCA cable into. Something in the system is cutting out periodically, causing annoying alternations between the Roku and broadcast TV. That's the other reason I'm giving this device four stars instead of five. I realize the way I have the device connected is far from ideal, so I'm giving the Roku the benefit of the doubt. I have a suspicion the box could be losing the WiFi signal from my router, which is on the far opposite end of the house. One oddity about the Roku is it has no power switch, either on the box or on the remote. The box will go into standby mode if you leave a movie paused for a few minutes or if you turn the TV off. This is a problem for the way I have the box set up since it becomes difficult to get back to broadcast TV. I can receive broadcast TV just fine if I turn the TV on and don't touch the Roku remote, but once I do, the Roku is in control and it's hard to go back. All of this would be a non-issue on a set with HDMI or RCA inputs. Aside from these problems which are perhaps partly of my own making, I am quite satisfied with the Roku and I'm enjoying the viewing opportunities it's opening up even beyond Netflix. Because this is a discontinued model, it's going cheap on eBay right now, so get one while you can. Update 9/20/14--the problem of the Roku cutting in and out turned out to be a malfunction in the RF modulator I had it plugged it into. I finally got hold of a different one and now it works perfectly, although it's still next to impossible to switch between the Roku and broadcast TV with this configuration.Read full review
This is my 2nd Roku - this latest one is for my bedroom. With Netflix, PBS, Plex (for the Daily Show and Colbert)and all the new free channels (A+E, SYFY, History, youtube)I have enough streaming content to never need cable, which has less late night programming and more commercials/infomercials than ever before. Why pay for that? With an easy set up, smooth streaming (an occasional hiccup requires a reboot) and more content weekly, Roku is the way to go, all you need is good wifi. And a refurbished $35 Roku is a great buy. Do it!
Roku is a great product. It's convenience and ease of use are what has made me a repeat customer. I have found that it is a greatly appreciated gift. However this particular unit does not function correctly with all television sets. The main menu and selection screens work properly. The problem occurs when you play a movie, the screen turns purple, but you still hear the audio. The solution is to use the component cable instead of the HD cable. You may want to investigate this matter further before purchasing. This was the first problem I have come across with Roku units. Hope this is of some help to someone.
Just thrilled with this tiny devise! It took the place of a mass of cable equipment the box the router and what ever that other box was not to mention the octopus of cables and cords I was constantly trying to tuck behind the TV. The Roku lt was so simple to install just plug it in to the tv and the wall outlet, go to the computer enter the code that pops up on the TV screen, choose your channels and you’re ready to roll. I got it to watch my Netflix on the TV vs computer and it was so much more that I cancelled my cable! I highly recommend and I’m telling everyone that will listen
A great gadget for streaming Netflix. You also get Crackle and Pandora for free with minimal effort. I had been using a laptop to stream Netflix and this improved the picture quality 75%. All for $49.99 plus $9.99 S&H direct from Roku. I rate mine 100%. Too good and simple to be true.
