It compares favorably with many more expensive phones. Unless your personal image rides on the brand of your phone, you don't need anything else. I wish Asus would put fewer proprietary apps on their devices; but I can live with it.

By all indications this handset has an unusual programming limitation such that it only negotiates a maximum of a 75mpbs connection with any Wifi signal it encounters. I spent an hour with Asus phone support today who setup an RMA yet it's doubtful to remedy the problem given a long thread over on Amazon's reviews page about this problem. As for the ZE551KL handset I received today. It has the latest firmware and latest Android updates. The handset will only connect at 72mbps no what router I connect to. All of my other handsets even my really cheap $40 handsets connect at either 150mbps or 300mbps. I understand what a 75mbps connection infers...that the device is connecting with 1 antenna @ 20mhz width while a 150mbps connection infers a device is connecting with 1 antenna @ 40mhz channel width. 300mbps is 2 antennas @ 40mhz channel width. I'm convinced this is a firmware problem and not a chip problem given Asus L1 & L2 phone support affirms this handset has only 1 antenna. They just setup an RMA. I doubt it will fix the problem given the commentary here. Asus doesn't offer cross shipping if I provide them my credit card so they tell me I'd be without a phone for 3-4 weeks...and I doubt it will fix the problem.Read full review

The fastest name brand phone i have used was a galaxy s5 through a previous employer, and this phone by far out performs it. the last 3 years i have been buying off brand phones like dodgee's, uhappy's, irulu's, and others not worth mentioning in order to save a lot of money, and have the ability to take the unlocked phones to different carriers.....but they all shared a few universal problems: 1. absolutely horribly inaccurate g.p.s functionality 2. Zero quality phone case options (equal to an otterbox) and at times none at all 3. terrible battery life 4. glitchy messaging software 5. glitchy touch screen interfaces with 1 or 2 of the above mentioned brands 6. bad quality external speakers This phone after 2 months of use suffers from NONE of that from what i have seen so far. and the stand alone g.p.s inside this phone is very accurate, and allows me not to let google track my every move (by having the location services activated just to get g.p.s functionality). The external speakers seem to be of good quality (asus please amplify these in future models for the hearing impaired), the auto focus on the camera seems to work great every time. the data transfer kicks butt (carrier is tmobile currently) and the phone spends 1/2 of the time wifi hot spotting to my smart tv for netflix....works like a charm. the screen is supposed to be super durable....but i couldn't swear to that because for the first time in three years i was able to buy a nice hard shell case and tempered glass screen protector to keep this baby safe :) I for one plan to buy several more of these babies for future use (not that i expect bad things of this phone...i'm just really hard on phones) in closing.... for all of you that insist on buying your high end name brand phones for $600+ knock yourselves out (hopefully it keeps these phone's cost down for me). and for all of you that have been buying generic smartphones on here to save a few bucks....This bad boy has what you have been looking for!!!! disclaimer....everything above and below are just the personal opinions of a very satisfied owner. Also all phones have bloatware, and i'm not tech savy enough to do something about it.....but for all you jail-breakers....this reasonably priced phone might be perfect for experimenting on, I imagine it would easily compete with the big boys after trimming a little fat. thanks for readingRead full review

I had this phone for over a year. It was a great phone, but the power button broke. However it was a very fast phone, with an amazing camera until the power button broke I loved it.
