The Canon PowerShot G6 is an excellent option for many reasons. In today's technological age, one might think this piece obsolete. However, it is not by a longshot. With its 7.1 megapixel output, this little gem is still very viable. It is a great point and shoot for the novice. Even more advanced photographers will enjoy the many features offered by the Canon PowerShot G6. Its features are reminicent of the pricey, bulkier SLRs. The 2.5" LCD, while a bit small, yields longer battery life than its larger counterparts. Canon PowerShot G6 LCD screen boasts an extremely rare swivel attribute. Anyone can easily shoot video footage head-on or catch the action below. Not only that, the swivel allows for self-staring video or portrait. This feature is great for kids in college and far from home, or parents that want to stay in touch. Even grandparents who miss much of the growing years will be tickled to receive, or send, such footage. The Canon PowerShot G6 is superb for experimenting. Try the panoramic mode for sweeping views or set it on sepia to catch the feel of yesteryear. The zoom is wonderful and has the fitting for upgrades. The G6 also has an external flash placement. For the more advanced user, several aperture and pixel options are also available. G6 runs on a rechargeable, AA pack. Remember; always keep an extra, fully charged battery on hand. No one wants the dreaded, low-battery crisis because great photo/video opportunities await the Canon PowerShot G6 around every corner. Once precious moments are captured, chose from several playback options. Thanks to the included AV cables, Canon PowerShot G6 allows photo/video viewing on TV. Or, upload to a computer via USB. Plug the removable, MD card into a digital, photo frame for instant slideshows to be enjoyed at a party, family function or memorial. With the Canon PowerShot G6, the options are endless. Novice or expert, this camera is just pure fun ... F-U-N, fun!Read full review
Great camera. I've bought two of these: one for my niece and one for my girlfriend - both photographic novices. They've had excellent results, thanks to camera ergonomics, excellent glass (G6 was last G-camera to use F2.0 optics, later models used IS in lieu of fast glass), terrific sensor and loads of features. If you don't want to use abundant feature, it works great on auto as well. Doesn't have later G-model problems with dust spots, lens getting stuck, etc. Also easier to hold onto. On the con side, focus can be agonizingly slow. Be careful that focus has been achieved prior to pressing shutter. Also don't know why Canon went from black G5 to GREY G6 back to black G7. Marketing mis-step I guess, and I imagine this keeps prices down. Personally I use a Pro-1 and would have a hard time telling the difference between output from this camera and the G6; due to its more compact form factor, I've been tempted to pick up a G6 as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this camera. Compared to the newer models, it an exceptional value if you shop carefully.Read full review
I bought this camera because of the reviews of others and it fit into my budget. It fit into my budget because it is an older model camera, but that doesn't diminish its quality. It is a quality, well-built camera. The side viewfinder takes a little getting used to. It produces Great quality pictures. Has enough options and features. I like the look, the feel is alittle different if your used to point and shoot. Without a lens, it is smaller and easier more mobile than some other DSLRs. So it's kinda like the best of both worlds. I enjoy taking pictures and I enjoy taking pictures with this camera. I know I didn't include any specs or technical info. That's easy enough to find, but in my opinion, this is a awesome camera.
The first thing you need to know is that this is a point and shoot camera, not an SLR. Although, it really is the next best thing. I owned a Canon PowerShot G6 years ago and loved it, so when I needed another point and shoot camera I bought it again. I especially like the macro and panoramic features. It works better than my SLR where these two features are concerned. The swivel view screen is really convenient too as it allows you to change the angle to help avoid glare on the screen. The view screen is pretty accurate, but the view finder isn't, especially when any amount of zoom is used. You do need to be particularly careful about water with this camera. I made the mistake of setting down my original camera beside me on the grass and only realized after I had fried the view screen that the grass was damp.Read full review
I bought another Canon G6 because i had one before which was lost on a cruise, I purchased a Canon G10 and a Canon Rebel, but they did not have the Custom features programable like the G6. I take a lot of Model Automotive photos and cannot get a clear picture of the whole model in focus with any of the programs aqvailable in the G10 or Rebel. I can program the G6 and save the settings to a custom area and recall it any time I get ready to photgraph any Model Autos. I do not have to reset everything each time. The G10 has lots of features, but the majority of them are automatic meaning you cannot change anything to improve the photo. You have to set everything on the Rebel manually and it is rather hard to remember how to set everything. I have not been able to accomplish better photos with the G10 or the Rebel compared to the G6. The only things that are not as good with the G6 compared to the G10 or the Rebel are the pixel resolution is lower and the camera is slower.Read full review
