The NA788 is basically an okay aftermarket stereo. Pros: It's not overly gaudy. It's has ports in the front for USB and Aux In. Decent sound. Cons: Radio reception is not great. Display is too bright at night. Door to front USB port broke on first use. My review is based on comparing four stereos that were installed on a 94 Mazda Miata during the course of a month: The OEM unit, a Kenwood KDC-BT275U, a JVC KW-R930BTS and the Nakamichi. The JVC and Kenwood had the best radio reception. They were the best at receiving weak signals. The Kenwood was too complex to operate while driving. Small controls. The JVC (for me) is the best of the four. Display dims at night, great reception, and larger buttons. Admittedly, the Kenwood is a single DIN unit and the others double DIN or DIN and a half. The Nakamichi is alright for the price, but I'd spend $20 or $30 more to get a unit that had better reception and won't distract the driver with an overly bright display at night.Read full review

Feature Rich double din unit that adds a lot of value. I replaced my stock unit in my 06 Subaru Baja. Bluetooth pairing, SD Card, USB Media and USB Charging all worked well. Built in microphone is a plus. It was a good fit after a little trim work to the bezel and sounds great too. It is very straight forward to operate.

For the price this is an excellent value. If you're annoyed with touch screen glare in your convertible and you don't mind something that isn't ultra modern looking, this is a solid choice. All is not great though. It's very bright and it changes colors randomly. At night it is bright and slightly annoying. There is no dimmer either. It does have a removable face plate if that's important to you. Sound quality...? Well, I have an external amplifier so I'm happy.

Excellent sound quality, excellent reception and nice controls but the light is too bright at night. There should be a dimming function. Automatic would be best. Also, it is very noisy. The cd mechanism is audible through the speakers. The alternator whine was very difficult to quiet down using two grounds, one to chassis and the ground volvo provides in the audio wiring harness. I had the whine diminished to a level I could live with but a week later its raising its ugly head. I've never noticed either of these issues with Volvo head unit. Maybe I have a defective unit but the eBay seller so far has ignored my post sales communication.
