Raiden on the Atari Jaguar is an accurate port of the arcade original. Simple, perfectly balanced gameplay makes for one of the best vertical scrolling shmups. While the features are completely bare-bones the fine tuned degree of difficulty provides substantial replay value. As long as you can survive, the 8 levels will repeat with ever increasing difficulty. This makes the pursuit of mastery and outdoing the top score virtually limitless. If you really want to appreciate this kind of game, play with minimum credits and go for proficiency.

Raiden is one of the better games on the Atari Jaguar system. A must have if you want to have the Jaguar as part of your collection long-term. The play control and graphics are great. The only area of the game that is lacking is the music. Seems that a lot of the game music is missing as compared with other ports. This isn't a huge disappointment, though as it's sill a fantastic overall package.

The base game wasn't that compelling to begin with, honestly, but the transition to Jaguar is faithful, if nothing else. The controller, however, is poorly suited to shmups with the spongy buttons and the layout will have you throwing bombs you didn't mean to throw often... Don't go out of your way to pick this up unless you are a BIG Raiden fan.
