This lens is astonishing! First of all it is The Widest zoom and second widest lens after a Voigtländer 12 mm lens that needs a Bessa L camera. Best feature is that it has much less of barreling distortion than Canon' 16-30? mm lens. Light fall off is very moderate and is easily corrected through Photoshop's Distort? Lens Correction-Vignette filter. The only problem my lens has is that F-stop doesn't close if the lens is set to 14mm or wider. But then problems can happen w. anything and I got this lens used from the nastiest Ebayer I've ever encountered ID- "81620". I was afraid 12mm would be too wide and corner distortions too much but I' very happy w. my images. I shoot mostly interiors and architecture. This lens became my #1 working lens. Sigma's 12-24mm is a technical marvel, and a fantastic lens. Most ultra-wide zooms are designed for cropped-sensor digital cameras, but not this Sigma. The quality of images it produces is noteworthy, exceptional, even unprecedented. There is no other ultra-wide zoom that produces higher quality images, with almost no distortion or chromatic abberation. Nikon and Canon's ultra-wides both have significant chromatic abberation, and Nikon's 12-24 has starnge "moustache" shaped distortion. Sigma's lens is an architectural photographer's dream. The Canon mount version of this lens is also special because it is the only ultra-wide zoom that will work on the 1D series. The 1Ds series is full-framed, and on that camera Canon's 16-35L is wide enough, but on the 1D series which have a 1.3X crop, you cannot use EF-S and other "digital" lenses, but the Sigma 12-24 does the job spectacularly, providing a sull-frame 16mm equivelent field of view. Of course the Sigma 12-24 will even work on the 1Ds, where it qualifies as the widest-angle rectilinear lens in the world. Bravo, Sigma.Read full review
What i really like about this lens is the ultra wide angle of this lens on a full frame dslr or 35mm film slr camera. It is the widest you will probably find for a while. It is surprisingly sharp for being so wide after stopping the aperture down a bit. What's pretty nice about the lens is that it comes with a filter adapter for 82mm since the front of the lens protrudes out. The downfall is that it won't work for a full frame because it will be a circle in the frame with the picture and everything else outside of it will be black unless you are zoomed in to the max 24mm. I suppose you could rig something up or us a cokin filter adapter. Another thing I'm not too pleased with but will not disqualify it for me is that it's not a fast lens. The fastest aperture is at f/4.5 when at 12mm. For most like myself will probably be using this for landscapes and scenery so a tripod will come into play so no big deal. All in all its a great lens for creative effects or landscapes and what not. I would definitely suggest this lens but do not expect much hand held shooting. I especially like this lens for long exposure photography. If you decide to join the wide side, enjoy, because i know i am.Read full review
I purchased this lens to make better use of the full frame sensor on my camera. The lens is performing very well. The lens is more sharp than many reviews would lead one to believe. Some vignetting is noticeable at 12mm and f5.6, not so much at other f stops. This was expected so it does not phase me too much. Wow, is all I can say about looking through the view finder with this lens attached. I keep thinking, this is like a fisheye without the fisheye look. This was a good purchase for outdoor photography; for indoor work, with no flash, something in the f/2.8 range would be the way to go, but for all else the Sigma 12-24mm lens rocks. Not too shabby for HDR stuff either, fyi.
Bought this lens on ebay to use on a trip to Israel. I wanted an wide angle that would give me some high quality pics. I'm very satisfied with the lens. I can recommend it highly. I use it with my Canon.
