I was a fan of Carver audio since I was a teen and was looking to buy another brand AV reciver until I came across this unit. It seem to be a good price although it was more than the Nakamichi I was looking at, and it lacks HDMI connections, when I unpacked the unit and was handling it, I heard something metallic rattling around inside, after removing the enclosure, there was a metal mounting screw that fell out, shocked I looked the circuit board over carefully to make sure there wasnt anything else loose and ready to fall out, and I found another half-tighened screw. I reinstalled ther screw that fell out and re-tighted the other screw I found and replaced the enclosure, connected the speakers and a Sirius reciver and powered the unit on, it sound good at first, but there was a constant random clicking, light popping noise the is very audible, regardless of what's playing (AM/FM, Satillite, etc.) So that tells me that a circuit compnent is failing. I'm sure the seller knew of this, but did not mention it, thats wrong and not fair to the buyer. In time I will have the unit repaired at my cost, not a good experiance...........Read full review

This is a very powerful and clean sounding receiver. The HR-895 includes an advanced, five channel Dolby Pro Logic surround sound decoder. In addition, three more surround modes are provided and also includes multi-room operation with the optional Multi-Room Kit. There are three video inputs and four video outputs, and a subwoofer output. They originally listed for $1200.00 and were very popular in the late 1980's. Today the HR-895 still produces quality sound with specs that are the real deal. More powerful then the HR-875, the HR-895 in stereo mode reproduces 110 watts RMS per channel with 0.2%THD @1kHz. Very impressive. This unit weight 43 pounds and is rack mountable. I have owned my unit since new and have recently had it factory serviced and brought back to the original specs. I forgot just how good the HR-895 sounded when brand new. I will keep this unit for another 30 years...Read full review
