The 7CT1N is compact and slides into any Tektronix 7000 series scope giving you good basic curve trace capability for signal or low power transistors and FETs it was intended for in the early 1970s when it was designed. Due to age, they can require repairs for internal switch assemblies and can blow capacitors C30 and C32 that are voltage underrated at 25VDC when they should be over 35VDC causing resistors R30 and R32 to overheat and burn the PCB. The 7CT1N is excellent for displaying gain and linearity over a family of curves up to the limit of the instrument. For more detailed assessment of transistors and other semis, you'd have to go to a larger dedicated stand-alone curve tracer. Hats off to Tektronix for quality equipment that's still relevant and useful 4 decades later!

This instrument remains very useful and its limits depends on application and device configurations. This curve tracer can be used with external Digital oscilloscopes using X-Y to further analysis of DUT. External digital scope use speeds up device test when performing hundreds if not thousands of transistors. It can also operate along with a known good quality Tektronix Differential Amplifier (7A22) for much crispier screen image and further control.
