The SEGA Saturn was released in 1995, but thanks to a major blunder by SEGA, there was not much software for it too long after release. Panzer Dragoon did get off the ground, and it was awesome. The game is a rail shooter kind of like Time Crisis, Area 51, and other games of the day. However, what made it awesome was the world that it put you in. Never before had a world so detailed, so alive, had been seen in any video game. The Saturn promised raw power, and it delivered on an impressive scale, even for a launch title. Panzer Dragoon is non-stop shooting action, fairly light on the story, but heavy on the substance. PD is a pretty stylish game, even for 1995. However, with early 3D systems come some problems, especially with pixelation and such. Also, I sometimes get seasick with the scrolling ground. I know I did get a little seasick with the rolling waves on the first stage. However, if you play it with your mindset in 1995, and not in 2008, you can truly appreciate this game.Read full review
This rail-shooter is one of the definitive games for the Saturn. It was the beginning of a series that is still popular to this day. Even though the 3D graphics are somewhat primitive and don't showcase the full power of the Saturn, you'll still enjoy it. It can be hard at times, but this should definitely be a part of any Saturn owner's collection.
When i first seen James Cameron Avatar, the dragons or whatever they are were so familiar, than it hit me, Panzer Dragoon, you can customize your dragon the color changes and i was like i loved that game, and thats why i bought it so thank james for refreshing my memory, but the dragons he used are from this game in my opinion... however go see the movie, and play this game.... you will enjoy both..
Wow, this game looks viciously out-dated in 2009. Funny thing is, it doesnt really matter, because it's still a lot of fun. If you grew up in the playstation generation, you may want to skip this for the sequel, Zwei, as it is more polished and graphically superior, but if you have fond memories of star fox on SNES then you will not be disappointed.
This game is epic! I never could play it back in the 90's. I just didn't get the flow of the game. These days...because of years of PC games and more forward interaction ..I can finally grasp the gameplay and make it through levels. Great game!
