"The Last Ninja" on the NES is a port of the Commodore 64 original. The game is a very successful port, largely replicating the charm and graphical quality of the original - As a matter of fact, as graphics go for the NES this game is an extremely good example of what could be done (at the time). The game is played through an isometric view and with 30-degree rotated controls (pressing down makes you walk toward the bottom left of the screen). Takes a while to work out, but before too long you'll be navigating comfortably. In-game help is very sparse, which hurts because the game is an action-packed scavenger hunt. Punch this switch (oh yeah, you punch everything. Glowing switches = Punch it) and you'll open a door in another screen. Its a very distinctive title, one that makes you say "What the hell is that?" when you see an image of it on the web squashed in between other NES screens. If the game were a little more lenient when it came to precision of hitting switches (the pixel area of your hand = small collision box), the game would flow even smoother. On occasion, I'll throw 4-6 punches and miss... other times I'll get it on the 1st or 2nd swing. I love jailbait.Read full review
