This is the only home version to capture the ENTIRE arcade experience. There are minor gameplay and graphical differences between this and the arcade version. These differences do not affect the challenge, nor the fun value. This is truly the BEST conversion of the day. This contains all of the intro scenes, music, and cartoon animations of the arcade. These elements were missing from Nintendo's own NES version! (Mario catches fire when he hits a fireball, he freezes when he hits a slipice or icicle, the Shellcreepers flip their turtle shells over, etc.) This is one of the very few conversions to include the icicles that fall from the levels. This really creates the ultimate challenge. Since they do not appear until around level 15, many people are not familiar with them. Sure, the graphics could have been drawn a little more faithfully to the arcade. However, the animation is so fluid and smooth, it's really hard to complain. There is a reason this game is sought after!!Read full review

A competent, but slower version of the NES classic. If you have an Atari XE or an Atari computer, and don't have a Nintendo Entertainment system, it is a must have. Great Graphics, sound and gameplay. It is a rarer sought after game, and it is fun, but it isn't as good as other ports from the same era.
