Virtua Fighter Remix was made because of the bad reputation the Saturn was getting early in its life, since the console's release was rushed by many months and the accompanying software was also rushed. Namco's Tekken, although not visually great, featured better environments and the pressure was on for Sega, with Virtua Fighter 2 in the arcades making Virtua Fighter look even worse. So Remix is announced and it features updated character models and textures, leaps and bounds above the original Virtua Fighter and Tekken. It kept the same gameplay, timings, and unfortunately environments too, and we lost the real-time lighting for pre-baked effects. Still, a great update that was free for the majority of the people at the time, or it came with their console (in S. America).

Alright, for the time, this was probably super impressive. It still looks pretty good for a Saturn game, but that doesn't make up for the fact that this game is broken and cheap. Each character has a million different combos that you have to input within split seconds by tapping out different button and directional sequences, that is, if you can before the AI, even on the easiest setting, doesn't knock your sorry mass of polygons into the next dimension. See, this game was obviously developed for those who were already into fighting games, but how does a company intend to draw in an audience when the first game in the series is nearly impossible to play? The controls lag, the hit detection only works about 40% of the time, and the game is ridiculously short. I wouldn't advise paying more than 5$ for this waste of shelf space, and even then, only to add to a collection, and NEVER to play. Had SEGA allocated the time and resources that this very minimal upgrade to the original VF to something like Burning Rangers' advertising budget, Sonic Xtreme, or getting Bernie Stolar out of SEGA America's offices as fast as possible before he heartlessly murdered it, I'm sure the Saturn may have had a much more successful run.Read full review

I absolutely love this game and always have. It was the first Sega Saturn game I ever played. One the best things about Sega Saturn games is, it brings arcade style-like games to your living room. Any retro gamer, who loves old Arcade games, will get a kick out of this game. From the awesome arcade-like music, to the fighting style; it is THE classic arcade for the the Sega Saturn.
