G-Police is a futuristic flight combat game with lots of action and challenge. I loved this game for PC using a joystick--as soon as I found out that G-Police was available for Playstation, I planned on repurchasing the game and I'm glad I did. The controls are a bit touchy at first. Make sure you turn on analog on the controller. Once you get used to the controls, it is better than the PC version. Though the vehicle is a futuristic flying hovercraft, and is a lot like flying a helicopter in other games. There are several special weapons, each of which add to the gameplay in different ways. You get just enough special weapon ammo so that you have to get good at accuracy--whether with special weapons or the standard machine gun, the combat is all about getting the right angle of attack so that you can hit those moving targets. You can also re-arm at the base if there is time. Since the gameplay is so absorbing, I don't even notice the PS1 graphics after a while. Even though the story uses common action-movie/game themes, it kept me playing the game. The PC version's klunky keyboard controls (for lack of an 8-button controller) kept me from finishing the game even with a joystick, so I look forward to finishing it on the Playstation. The game seems to handle better using the mini joystick on the Playstation controller, which leaves all of the controls within a hair-trigger reach, which is important in this game. On the PS2, the frame rate remains perfectly smooth with the culling distance and field of view both set to maximum. This improves the game's graphics and playability so I recommend maxing out these settings in the games' menu. Also on Playstation 2, this game seems to look a little better using "Standard" textures setting for Playstation games which is the default anyway (boot the PS2 without a disc, press triangle, go to Playstation Driver, then push triangle to view and change the Playstation texture setting). If you are not a junkie for next-gen graphics and you enjoy flight combat games (which are in short supply), I highly recommend this game. There is one sequel, "G-Police: Weapons of Justice" which is only for Playstation.Read full review
It's a perfect addition to my PS1 game collection. The game discs look barely used almost like new. The jewel case is aged but it's not cracked and the hinges aren't broke.
