I recently purchased a reconditioned Atari 2600 system as I missed the fun of it from my younger days. Sure I could have purchased a Wii or XBox with their amazing graphics and sound (and confusing controllers), but I wanted something simple. Needless to say, I had to purchase some games for my system. I wanted some of my old favorites (Pitfall, Kaboom and Battlezone to name a few) as well as some games that I might have missed from "back in the day". I went to a few websites to read some reviews of old 2600 games. It is at one of these websites where I first found out about Pressure Cooker. It sounded fun and interesting, so I found a good used cartridge here on eBay and bought it. I'm glad I did. At first, I was a little confused. However, after playing it numerous times, I got a better grip on it. You are a short-order cook at a burger joint and need to prepare hamburgers to order. There are different condiments (tomato, lettuce, onion & cheese) that need to go on the burgers. On the bottom part of the screen, a menu detailing which burgers need which condiments is shown. The burgers come down from the oven on a conveyor belt. The condiments come out in random order. To catch a condiment, you need to make sure it hits you in the head or stomach, anywhere else, and you lose a point. Also, once you have placed the correct topping on the burger, the other bun comes out. You catch it the same way. The menu below shows 3 colors for the different "wrapping stations" to take your completed burger. You take your completed burger to the wrapping room and drop it down the correct shoot (either green, red or blue). Should you not drop the burger correctly in the shoot, you lose 5 points (you start the game with 50 "quality points" and lose 1 point for each wasted condiment, 5 points for each misplaced burger and 10 points for unfinished burgers that fall off the bottom of the conveyor belt. Your score is based on the catching of the condiments and placing of the burgers in the chutes. Once you have used up your 50 points, the game is over. The score and "quality points" are two different things. After each level, the game gets progressively more difficult. The burgers can have multiple toppings and the missing bun might not come right away. The rules and play of the game might sound confusing at first, but after some trial and error, you'll get the hang of it. There are only 2 small criticisms of the game. One, there is quite a long song at the beginning before you can start playing. Also, the controls might not be as tight as one would hope. Condiments you may think you have end of bouncing off you and placing burgers in the chutes sometime have similar issues. However, the graphics (for the 2600) are excellent and the game is fun.Read full review
Pressure Cooker is Fun but I'm not very good at it yet, I used to have it and don't remember it being so hard, I guess I just have to get good at it again. One of the few good games on the Atari.
