Crush, Crumble & Chomp lets you play as a monster trying to wreak havoc upon the world. Letter commands are used to move the monster around, tilt his head, attack innocents, and raze structures. Located on the left portion of the screen are meters for wind direction and the beast's health. The goal of the game is to successfully complete each mission while minimizing the amount of damage received.
The six monsters available include Goshzilla, the sea-based Kraken, an ooze known as The Glob, a destructive robot called Mechismo, Arachnis and Mantra. All monsters contain individual statistics for destruction, size and powers. For those who dislike the included monsters, there is an additional feature to build one from scratch.
In order to create a custom-made monster, you must first select which type of creature it is. Among the monster types are sea-based creatures, an insect, robots, flying creatures, a brontosaurus, and a biped. Once this variable has been selected, you can assign a number of skills using Crunch Credits.
Credits are needed for the purchase of various skills. Skills and features include mechanical arms, immolation, fire breath, crush and crumble, leaping structures in a single bound, and flying. While the monster should have an arsenal of different skills, credits must be saved for the Strength and Hide variables.
There are three different selections on the Strength menu: weak, normal and strong. Weak should be used when there are few credits left, as this setting adds 15 credits to the overall total. The strong variable will cost the same amount of credits, while the normal setting doesn't cost a thing. The Hide menu is used to alter the monster's mass. Variables include tender, thin, so-so, tough, rock hard, and like iron. Much like the previous menu, the better features will cost you credits while weaker ones will not.
Once the monster has been built, you can name it and send it on a mission that involves destruction, survival, combat, balance, or kill all that moves. While a balanced mission contains a little of each, the killer mission involves the elimination of innocent citizens. Survival missions, on the other hand, consist of avoiding missiles and other hazards. Before the actual game starts, you must choose a metropolitan area to enter. Areas are based on actual locations and include Washington D.C., New York, the Golden Gate Bridge and Toyko.
