Nova Blast (Colecovision, 1983)

Your assignment in Nova Blast is to protect four capsulated cities from enemy invasion. You can destroy Water Walkers with bombs and blast Gravinites, Orion Fighters and six other types of Flying Fighters with lasers. Along with protecting the cities, you must keep your Nova 1 ship safe from contact with enemies and their fire. Eight hits will destroy your ship, and eight hits on a city will destroy its protective capsule. Once the capsule is down, another enemy hit will demolish the city.

Like in Defender, the playfield in this game scrolls horizontally and you can fly and shoot lasers in either direction. A scanner at the bottom of the screen lets you track the enemies in relation to the cities under your watch. If a city loses its capsule, you can beam a shield over the city if you have enough energy in reserve. You can add to your ship's energy level by positioning your craft over an energy depot and beaming energy aboard.

In order to advance to the next wave, you must destroy all the enemies in the current wave of attack. You will earn bonus points at the end of each wave for every city left intact. The game ends when either your ship or all the cities have been destroyed.
