Ghost Trick Phantom Detective is easily one of the best games on the DS. If you're a fan of games like Ace Attorney, Zero Escape, Danganronpa, Professor Layton, and others in the same mold, you owe it to yourself to play Ghost Trick. Unique puzzles, a wonderfully eclectic cast, a fantastic soundtrack and beautifully rotoscoped graphics, there's really no other games like it.

*****Contains insignificant spoiler from start of game, for the purpose of an example; look for stars in text***** I heard that this game came from the creator of the Phoenix Wright game series, and being those excellent games, I had to give this one a try. I am liking it very much so far. It has some Japanese-culture expressions that not everybody will be able to catch, but I think for the most part everything plays right and looks nice (animation on characters has some smooth motion). You have to try and manipulate certain objects and find out how to get to new objects to change the fate of characters, ... in order to figure out what happened with your character. It does not seem very action packed (not really much fighting), but is rather a timed puzzle (use items in time to save a life; *****WEAK SPOILER FROM START OF GAME***** use a wrecking ball to stop a thug). *****END SPOILER***** If you fail a puzzle section, it lets you start once again from the start or from some midpoint. I would suppose the audience for this game is teenagers that are into puzzle solving and anime style mystery-story. On the negative side, I have heard that if you already know a puzzle, you probably wouldn't want to go back to it, making the game's replay value somewhat limited. I for one, intend to see the game through to the end!Read full review
I am an avid Ace Attorney player, and for a long time I wanted to try out this other game that the series creator Shu Takumi had worked on. I'm very glad I did! The characters and the story has a lot of the same quirky charm that the Ace Attorney series is known for, but also does a lot to set itself apart and stand alone as its own original series. If you've tried out Shu Takumi's other work and liked it, there's a good chance you'll like this too. And if you tried it and found that it wasn't your thing, I would recommend you give this one a chance eihter way, as it is different in several ways(being a lot less text heavy, for example). The game doesn't last too long, about 10-15 hours, but sometimes having a game that's short and sweet can be good too. In all, I would say this is another great game in the Nintendo DS' expansive library, that is worth checking out for any mystery or puzzle game enthusiast!Read full review
