Objectively, there are better wrestling games on the NES. But Pro Wrestling was one of the first, and as a kid who was right in Nintendo's marketing crosshairs in 1987, this game was perfect. My friends and I would spend hours competing in our tournaments, with everyone desperate to be the first to claim Starman, as he was the coolest character by far. Does it hold up today in the same way that Tetris, the Super Mario series, or Zelda does? No. But in terms of nostalgia value, it's pretty darn great. My NES collection wouldn't feel complete without it.

Love this game. Way better game with fantasy stars than the licensed wwf games

This is a very unique member of the first lineup of NES games. It is a collector's must-have for fans of "street fighter" style games. Considering the year of release, I give it an excellent rating. Selection of characters is fun; you can choose from a diverse set of six international fighters, each with special moves. Starman's backflip kick and the Amazon's head chomp are the most entertaining. Fight style has a lot of variables, moreso than typical 2-dimensional "street fighter" style games. Characters move 3-dimensionally, and they have options of fighting outside the ring, throwing opponents against the ropes for bounce-back attacks, and leaping onto knocked down opponents from the four corner posts. Many moves are risky, but add to the damage of opponents. There is also the risk of being knocked out when fighting outside the ring, failing to get back in in time, and losing the match. The only disappointment with this classic fighter is common with all wrestling video games - the absence of a life bar. You can sense when your character gets fatigued, but being able to pin an opponent or not is highly relative, and depends on the opponent's ability to button-mash quickly. I am so thankful to own this 80s wonder once again! It is always a fun surprise to pull on drunk friends at parties.Read full review

Great game. Plays great without relying on familiar faces to sell it. Cool special moves from each character.
