a must have jrpg for the 3ds
As soon as you begin, you meet young Azura and her friend Galil. In their world, Daemons have sealed off continents from each other, forced humans to toil under Beastfolk masters, and covered up the sun for over a thousand years.The story moves along at a brisk pace, never lingering for too long on a singular location or plot point.The Alliance Alive is a straightforward and fun JRPG with enough to keep the player invested throughout its story.A JRPG that combines classic concept with original decisions is one of the best examples of bringing old school RPG design to modern platforms. With an interesting story, charismatic characters and a deep battle system that requires strategy, The Alliance Alive is one of the biggest surprises for the 3DS and possibly one of the best RPGs of the year.It's a mix of old and new, melding the tried-and-true storytelling concepts that carried the JRPG genre through the '90s with more experimental ideas on what it means to be a role-playing game.The Alliance Alive tries to make improvements on its predecessor, but only to a certain level of success. It's a good RPG, the guys of Foryu took a while but after the hit or miss on Legend of Legacy they were able to make a good saga-like game.There’s a lot to love about The Alliance Alive: a well-paced story in an interesting world, a meaty mashup of unique combat elements, and a fantastic soundtrack that keeps you pumped and eager to explore. If you can put up with a bit of a learning curve, you’ll find a great portable adventure on the 3ds.The leveling up system is slightly different from traditional RPGs. Instead of stats increasing linearly based on reaching certain levels by earning XP, each individual statistic can increase independently. At the end of the battle its common that depending on how the battle went, maybe only your HP increased its maximum, or your proficiency with a particular weapon increased based on what was used. Pros love the intertwining stories of the main protagonists,Gameplay changes and evolves with the story, keeping players engaged,amazing soundtrack,Lots of customization,Plenty of exploration,Music and graphics create a world that is wonderful to visit,The games strong narrative allows for great character development.Cons Light on tutorial to where RPG newbies may have a tough time,Character growth is a bit random. less straightforward than traditional leveling,Beautiful world does not use the 3DS's stereoscopic 3D effect, no voice acting,can not level up all guilds to max or carry over guild levels to new game plus.Read full review
