Strider 2 is the long-awaited sequel to Capcom's classic arcade game Strider. Like its predecessor, Strider 2 provides blazing fast, challenging arcade action and creative stage design. It also has some new tricks up its sleeve as well. You play as Strider Hiryu going through 5 stages which consist of 6 different scenes each. Strider can run and slash, as well as double jump and use a special move in mid-air or a boost attack that gives him extra range. Levels have many useful powerups and secret items scattered about for those who use his wall climbing ability to check out a crevice. Strider faces constantly changing environments and many different bosses, some of which can be beaten in seconds, some which will require patient dodging and planning. The game never slouches in terms of design or speed, which helps make this a great experience. It also adds some new elements. You can slash with rapid fire, double jump, dash to get through certain points faster, and your midair special(which has unlimited uses) is a very welcome addition. I've played countless action games where I wished I could get more hits in as I jumped to a boss. There are some annoyances I have to point out, though. For one, it seems there are too many pausing points. You have to watch a seen of a boss unveiling himself for 10 seconds, and there is loading and pointless "mission briefing" between stages. I could have done without these "dramatic scenes." Also, the final boss of the game is cheaper than a copy of Madden '99, making it very tough to beat this on 1 credit. Graphically, Strider 2 features a well animated 2D Strider and 2D enemies mixed with 3D backgrounds. The 3D backgrounds allow for some wild effects throughout the game, and the 2D characters are very well drawn and animated. The music is passable, though I wish it had a bit more oomph to it. Strider 2 should satisfy anyone looking for fast-paced and challenging action. You even get the original Strider as a bonus, though I already played it before so I did not try it again. Just make sure to not use those unlimited continues, or you will rob yourself of a quality gaming experience. I could beat the game on 2 credits(nearly one), and you will have more fun and play this game longer if you try to at least get to the final boss on 1 credit. I hope that more gamers can learn the proper way to play arcade games, so they can exercise restraint and enjoy the game fully instead of writing them off as "too short."Read full review
This is the Golden Age of video games in my opinion and it gets no better. Strider 2 is excellent if you're interested in Retro Gaming and not bad by today's standards. A genuine side-scroller that comes at you with different angles, a nice touch in my opinion, Graphics are bright and colorful, I must have for side-scrolling beat-em-up fans

Even though this game is relatively old, it still packs a formidable punch. It fits perfectly into the fighting style of old Capcom games. A constant rush, repeated flying punches and a few special movies at your disposal, this game is one of my personal favorites. Strider 2 is a tight game. Even though I never knew about part one until way after the second one was released, I saw the difference in graphics and gameplay. This game is fast-paced, beautifully colorful and designed real well. I love it like hell. And the missions are mad good. Stages look 3D and nice, and the characters you end up fighting have good designs to them as well. An overall must-play game worth more than a sequel.
