If you collect games, especially Shooters (or as some call them Shmups these days), you know of a great but now gone company called Compile. There are several games released by Compile like Air Diver, MUSHA, Robo Aleste, PUYO PUYO, Govellius, etc. They created a series of Shooters using piloted robot mechs with the release of MUSHA (Metallic Uniframe Super Hybrid Armor and known as MUSHA Aleste in Japan) then had somewhat of a follow-up with Robo Aleste though different story. Other than Space Megaforce having the noticeable music and game play feel of a Compile game, it is not as many often speak of it as a pseudo sequel in the Aleste series. In Japan, Space Megaforce is known as Super "Aleste" and has a storyline with animation cut scenes but not the US release. While there is no mech to control or no cut scenes to follow a storyline, the game is a great little gem to own. The game is fun and has the easy learning curve even on the most difficult settings as one would expect from the Compile developers. Probably what I like the most about the game is the music as it suits the game play very well. The SNES color pallet was put to great use with vibrant colors displayed and very little slow down on the hardest mode to affect game play. I would have liked to have seen a second release of this game as it stands out on its' own but not in the Aleste series. Each stage is interesting to play through and does have replay ability although it is obviously linear. Weapons power up and are tied into your health which is different from most Shooters. One shot doesn’t kill you but lowers your weapons power up status which can be a problem later in the game, especially on higher difficulty settings. Overall it is a great game and with any luck Compile Heart might make some additional Aleste Shooters. -MordiRead full review
A very memorable game. I remember playing this when it was first released in 92' A little on the easy side on normal mode, one of the things that makes this game different is most the weapons are very effective. There are 12 areas and a few sub levels' this game was overlooked there are a sick amount of weapons.
It’s a very nice game. But to expensive but I still like this game
