AeroWings for the Sega Dreamcast is one of those games that you just can't seem to put down once you start to play! Like many things in life: it is easy to learn but extremely hard to master! That's what makes it so addicting to play. Learning to fly and manuever many different types of planes from the confines of your own house is a idea not many people think about, but that is what you do in this game. Learning the basics of flight (take-offs, landings, flaps, yaw, pitch, roll, etc...) to tacking on the most difficult of flight operations, FORMATIONS! From tackling the easiset of 2 man formations to 9 man team formations...while being graded in the process!! There is also a free flight simulator and games to play as well. In a genre with such potential, few truly great games ever emerge from it. However, AEROWINGS has done just that. This is undoubtedly one of the finest flight sims to ever hit the console market. It is stocked with five different modes of gameplay, each of which will provide hours of fun. Besides great modes like Free Flight and Obstacle, this game gives you the chance to join Blue Impulse, an elite team of flying experts similar to the Blue Angels. Another feature of AEROWINGS is its immense Multiplayer mode. It gives you and three friends the chance to fly together in formation and see if you can keep it together. For all you flight lovers, this is a must buy.
Years ago I played the first game, and loved it. I’ve picked it back up, and I’m now remembering just how tricky it can be to master some of the flight maneuvers. The feeling of satisfaction when you can finally consistently pull them off is great, and makes it worth coming back to time and time again. No combat, just aerial tricks and maneuvers.
