My husband and I first played this when we were first married 24 years ago, before all the new machines were out. Loved it! It had a fun story line, colourful graphics and some humour too. Always rented it but could never find in stores to buy. We got nostalgic one night, a bit ago and found it on ebay. (Years later of course.) And we still love it even though all the other newer fan dangle machines and games have come out. It is like an old friend returning home. It may not be like the new stuff out but it was and is still a great game for its age!

One of the first RPG's I have ever played on Sega Genesis, along with Traysia, this RPG set all standards and landmarks of what a RPG should really be like. This game is what gave birth to my overactive imagination and set the threshold of my RPG expectations for all upcoming RPG games. This game is a turn based dungeon crawler. You will not find yourself out in fields or forests, but navigating and exploring your way through a gigantic, multi-floored labyrinth. Perhaps similiar to the Wizardry games. Encounters there are random, like in Final Fantasy or Traysia. This is a first person view, meaning you will see through the eyes of what your character would see. The graphics are very cartoon like, making this very enchanting and colorful. The spells and spell effects in this game remain to be the most beautiful and epic even today. The entire screen will flash and move, making them incredibly beautiful to see. This game even today remains as my one, and only one, RPG, that I will remember for the rest of my life.Read full review
This is a great RPG game, I remember that back in the day this was one of my first RPG games that I had ever played with the Phantasy Star saga and Shining Force series, without a doubt one of my favorites games. If you like dungeon crawlers you need to try this one as well Shining in the Holy Ark for Sega Saturn that is the Spiritual successor. You will not regret playing this game!!!!!!

As a predecessor to the the Shining Force series this dungeon crawl was well done for the time period. It is basically a dungeon crawl that takes you back to the early computer systems dungeons. It's an enclosed feel like Tunnels of Doom on the TI (another under appreciated dungeon crawl) with simplistic battles. My major criticism of the game is it's a simplistic town which is not overhead but rather a side to side scrolling town with shops. While this is similar to some of the later Shining Force games it gets rather annoying to just go back and forth into he buildings. Graphics are pretty good although not spectacular. Overall though it's a fun little dungeon crawler that does get a lot harder as you go on and forces you to think your was through it. If you are into dungeon crawlers it's a nice little game for your collection.Read full review
This is a great rpg. For it's day the graphics are 10/10 and really still better than many of the games that get churned out today. The story is good and original, yes it has been done many times over now but this is from 1991. If you like old style games and rpg's then buy this game. If you do not like dungeon crawlers then this is not a game for you. This is the grandfather of the Shining series and well worth owning, especially at the cheap price this classic can be obtained for.
