Systematic Chaos is the 9th studio from the quintessential American progressive metal band, Dream Theater. The first track, "In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 1," pulls you into the music at express train speed with a complex pairing of John Petrucci's guitar solo punctuated by an intricate matching rhythm from drummer Mike Portnoy, underscored by the synthesizer and bass groove of Jordan Rudess and John Myung. "In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 1" consists of the first two movements of the piece, with a play time of nine minutes. "In The Presence of Enemies Pt. 2" is the final track on the CD with four movements, clocking in at almost seventeen minutes. Between the two parts of "In The Presence of Enemies" lie "Forsaken," "Constant Motion," "The Dark Eternal Night," "Repentance," "Prophets of War," and "The Ministry of Lost Souls." Experienced Dream Theater followers will recognize and thoroughly enjoy the dark undercurrents that run through these songs. The Special Edition features a mind-blowing DVD featuring the making of Systematic Chaos, as produced and filmed by Mike Portnoy. At minimum, this film provides a fascinating insight into the process of recording a CD. What makes it hypnotic for the Dream Theater fan is the up-close look at the band's creative process in motion. The songs were written and perfected in the studio, and the audience is witness to the fusion of concept with music throughout the entire six months of recording. The film presents a full range of the joy, tedium, hard work, and constant revision that went into creating Systematic Chaos, punctuated with commentary from Mike Portnoy, James LaBrie and John Petrucci. Prepare to learn much more about each track of the CD as you watch this brilliant film. Owning the audio CD is not enough. You MUST own the DVD as well. i like the concept of this band, prog rock prog metal. very good and different than usual rock and metal. i like this one because it covered their earlier years. well worth the money, great package deal,no doubt. great production, great concept.
This CD shows why Dream Theater remain at the top of the Progressive Metal heap. Once again it is a display of complete sonic brilliance that will challenge the listeners mind and soul. From the first note to the last the CD is never tiresome and makes you want to hear more. Their chops are as tight as ever and their creativity is not waning. I've been a fan since "Pull Me Under" first hit the airwaves and feel that they have been the only band to remain truly interesting from disc to disc. Getting this CD is a no-brainer.
Dream Theatre has been a favorite of mine for some time now. I just got a chance to listen through the album and was pleasantly surprised with the changes in sound. Though not as hard as the last two albums, Systematic Chaos has a beautiful mix of soft melodies, bone chilling lyrics, and hard as nails guitar solos. Highly recommend this album to everyone who enjoys alternative or progressive rock!!
Good quality. Came faster than expected.
