As a more revcent convert to Slipknot, I find this album very interesting. Across the three albums in their discography (soon to be four!) there is a running transition. Ther first, self titled, album was an explosion of sound and aggression which attracted as many fans as it alienated but made a huge impact on the Metal scheme. This, the second album, demonstrates a maturity to their sound while retaining much of the frantic feel of the first album and has been described by the band as their "breakdown". Unsuprising given the media attention given to their first release. The third album (Vol 3 - the subliminal verses) then takes this tone one step further into an more industrial feel. My experiences with Slipknot began fully with the release of the much underrated third album and have lead me in reverse through their back catalogue. I like this album a lot. Several very catchy and memorable tracks on the album, and it sounds more thoughtful than their classic first album. Several tracks wnet on to be successful singles in their own right and are familar from the outset. One track was used in the Resident Evil soundtrack. Definitely worth a listen, and a favourite of many Slipknot fans.Read full review
The best album if you are looking for brutal metal, it really shows the aggresion and talent this band has. listening for the amazing drums by the best drummer alive today: Joey Jordison. and the vocals from Corey are incrediable. a definate must have, but if you are a true maggott you will already have this.
I bought this for a friend who "said" he liked Slipknot and as it turned out he didn't so i was lumbered with an album by a band I, at the time, didn't like, and to be perfectly honest, i'm so glad that happened! I LOVE this album, and i would rate it as one of my top 10 personal favorite albums of all time. Every track is great, Slipknot are so good at what they do and this beats Subliminal Verses hands down. I strongly recomend this album to anyone who likes metal or anyone who is getting into it. Enjoy!
