Look, the movie itself is not as upbeat as trailers and reviews make it out to be. (It should be seen in tandem with Mayor of Hollywood, with interviews by the real Kim Fowley.) But the soundtrack is a hoot. If you were around at the time, the movie grabs you from the first bit of glamtastic guitar on the opening track of Nick Gilder's "Roxy Roller." And you basically hear Suzi Quatro's "The Wild One" through the star-studded ears of Joan Jett. MC5's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" is a bit plodding (I know that was the point). But we are back on a high with Bowie's "Rebel Rebel." Most of the cd alternates between the real Runaways and the version fronted by Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart made for the movie. Dakota and Kristen are convincing frontmen (as James Brown noted, it was a macho, macho world), and the only thing lacking is the growling guitar is a little too perfect for a 70s feel. The soundtrack makes a convincing case for between-glam-and-punk as a genre with the Runaways as "The Queens of Noise." I am convinced more by the soundtrack than the movie.Read full review
This is one of the best "kick-xss" rock CDs I've ever bought. The guitar licks are awsome as well as the lyrics. I listen to this all the time. Makes me wonder how an all girl group rock n roll teenager group would do in today's environment. This albumn is extremely addicting. The actresses who sang some of the songs were actually better than the original group. No kidding!
Great music
