I Hear Black is Overkill's sixth album, which was released in 1993. The songs are: "Dreaming in Columbian" – 4:00 "I Hear Black" – 5:37 "World Of Hurt" – 5:19 "Feed My Head" – 5:36 "Shades of Grey" – 5:19 "Spiritual Void" – 5:13 "Ghost Dance" – 1:46 "Weight of the World" – 4:07 "Ignorance and Innocence" – 5:00 "Undying" – 5:25 "Just Like You" – 4:13 I really enjoy this album, and bought it because I have a copy in cassette and wanted to have it in CD format. For many people, this album is either a great hit or tremendous miss. I aligned myself with the first group. The album marked a change in style for the band. Some fans welcomed the change with no problem; however, others couldn't. The change can be attributed to having many collaborators in the writing of the songs. This is an aspect that was controlled in future releases. Lyrics from “Ignorance and Innocence” I ain't lookin' for a reason, I ain't searchin' for my soul... This album plays like a mechanical bull ride. It's a great recovery effort from the ill-conceived 'flaw' that is HORRORSCOPE '91 [read my review on it], worse yet, hear it. I HEAR BLACK has a great groove, something that Overkill had become known for earlier - heavy, thrashing metal that you can dance to - NOT THAT YOU SHOULD. The drums are better, the songs are stronger, the albums an A+ -note: if you're lucky enough to find a foreign pressing of this cd, get it at all costs, it then becomes a masterpiece. Sound Quality and instruments colide and make kool-aid. ENJOY!
This is one of the best cd's Overkill ever released. No matter if it's been ten minutes or two years every time i hear Blitz'z voice on Spiritual void or Shades of grey the hair on my arms and neck stand up ....even though nothing will top years of decay or under the influence to me, i do find I HEAR BLACK to a must have this is my third time buying the cd as i have worn out all prior cd's and cassettes. Overkill Kicks (you know what)!!
Overkill is one of the few thrash bands that progressed more with each album.Listening through their older stuff which I enjoy I always come to the 'I Hear Black' album more often.Overkill has polished their sound in this album, the album is pure mosh pit material check out the track 'World of Hurt' for some reason I never forget the melody to that song. This album takes me back to when thrash metal was a very appreciated form of music.
Brand new in the jewel case very good.
