This series is well thought out, the author states the full outline was in place before showing the pilot. Quite a few actors are famous for other films. Taking place in Earth's future as part way station, part united nations; Deep Space nine deals with the typical things different cultures run into when attempting to exist together. If you loved the original Star Trek series you are going to love this series. There is rumor of a full length, big budget, feature film starting in 2016. I cant wait

Fans of the B-5 show will watch the movies too. But the movies went similar to the show, slow at the beginning, good in the middle, and terrible at the end. #1 is slow & boring, 2 & 3 are okay, 4 is terrible, and I wonder what the writer was thinking when 5 was penned. This isn't a weekly cliffhanger, it's the end, what were you thinking??

I AM A MAJOR, LIFE-LONG, FAN of Babylon 5. In my opinion this was consistently the BEST written T.V. Series ever. The series was like a Well Written Novel, with each episode an interconnected chapter, in turn leading to the final satisfying conclusion. This DVD was that Last item I needed to complete my collection of Babylon 5 T.V. works (TV series & movies). Personally, there isn't anything about this DVD set that I'm not happy about, for me, it's Perfect. If your a fan of Babylon 5, this set IS A MUST!!! However, if you have not closely follow the series, you may have trouble following the B5 movies in this set (various references to episodes in the series)---of course, you could always buy all 5 Seasons Box Sets. :)
This is a must have for all of those who want to see the whole of Babylon 5. The first two movies are inadvertently numbered by production and not chronological order. But even like this, these two plus "A Call To Arms" are the real reason why you should want this boxset. In The Beginning - Is the first thing to see even if it is Disc2, story of the earth minbari war and foundation of the Babylon project. It also has another relation to the time line as its ending is in fact a scene from one of the later seasons episodes. Probably the best of the Babylon 5 movies, it also set the mood for a new spectator to pass threw the few primitive CGI and nowadays unimpressives costume of season 1 with hope about thing to come. The Gathering - is the pilot of the series. In my opinion this should have been included with the season1 itself. Some may find it a little bit calm and stoic in regard to the other works of the franchise, but it still does a pretty good job of introducing the station, it's life, and it's many colors. My only regret with this one is the choices made with costumes and some other details that will apparently be voluntarily changed in every other movie or season. simple, but effective. Another must have. Thirdspace - probably what looked like a good idea a the time... The story is not particularly original, it also breaks away from the tone of the serie and is centered around the human elements of the Babylon station wich are not the greatest actor from the franchise. This is more like a one hour and a half episode wich could have been written for the show but abandonned for reasons of consistency. In fact, even when you know where it goes in the show it bring little to it and is practically never referenced... Even if every living being in the station was either possessed or fighting loved one turned mad. River of souls - Another weird lapse form the current of its season. Already more usefull to the B5 mytho because it brings back some of season 1 elements wich needed closure. And this movie delivers it. So even if it is still more of an episode than a real movie, it is a great part of the franchise to have. There is some funny moments, some great shots or innovations, and the punch line is enjoyable. But then, as for Thirdspace, something here is missing from the show as we only get to see the humans elements... A Call To Arms - wich is and at the same time is not a Babylon 5 movie. This is one of the many things you get to watch between the two last episode of the series. It is in the B5 universe, with it's characters and it bring back some of the plot element that could have had thier happy ending without this piece of drama. But it is in fact the pilot for crusade, another series wich you should find and watch if you enjoyed B5 enough to go "Atlantis" with it. Compared to Thirdspace or River of Souls, this one does not only have the pretention of being a movie, it really is. Characters are interesting, new development are well integrated, etc... But mostly this is the presentation and the pitch for Crusade wich may had increased it sells by having this movie in its boxset. Anyway, I strongly recommend this product if you plan to see Babylon 5. In fact, you should get those before your start season1. But even with this, you'll still lack two other movies to see all there is to see. Also, a reference sheet telling where does those movies go in the timeline for watching the series would not have been a luxury.Read full review
The movies are excellent. The actors took up their roles just as they were in the series. If you enjoyed the series and have the Seasons on dvd, this will be a great addition to the collection. The only criticism that I have is the background music to 'A Call to Arms.' It could be that it is great music and it's my personal taste that's questionable but, please! It would've been nice to leave the style of music the same as it was for the series and the other movies.
