This is a well-researched, academic study on the missteps our nation has made over the past 30 years in our war on terrorism. I won't summerize it, as other reviews have done it already. For the most part, I enjoyed his Sherman-esque approach to our current situations. I agree more of the nation needs to wake up to the fact that we are at war, a real war... and a real big one. I found most of his ideas and opinions to be appropriate and his unique insight into AQ and UBL to be interesting. However, I'm not sure how much his 'kill all if we don't change policy' strategy works. I was fortunate enough to have read The Sling and the Stone by Thomas Hammes before this book and it gave me much more knowledge about insurgencies than I would have otherwise had. If we, as Mr. Scheuer, continue our current policies (the failed ones) the only way to win is to kill with more frequency and less regard for civilian casualties. To march them to the sea (this time the red sea) and destroy their will to make war. While I agree that more killing is nessesary to win, knowing that insurgencies are all political i'm not sure it's in our interest to wage an all out war on islam. If there's one thing we've learned over the past 4 years, the killing we've done has only fueled recruitment. Wouldn't an equal strategy of more killing and more policy change be better? Or was Scheuer really just accepting that fact that our policies will not change any time soon. I'm not sure.Read full review
I purchased Imperial Hubris by Anonymous, Michael Scheuer (2004). I thought the price was very good and I was able to search EBAY'S many titles quickly for the one I wanted at a fair price. I reccommend avid readers use EBAY to find that special book that they want to read.
