This is the way you want to go for snes emulators on GNU+Linux (and probably other platforms as well). It works out of the box with no config required, except to select your preferred buttons in snes9x. I would have given it 5 stars, but you can tell it's made more cheaply than original snes game pads. It doesn't appear to be poorly made, though. It's just a lot lighter. The buttons work well and feel solid enough. We'll see how it holds up.

If not for the recommendation of a nerd who has never steered me wrong, I wouldn't have bought this. It seemed like a lot of money for what I expected to get. But I was basing my ignorant opinion on the truly cheap pieces of junk floating around that look similar. This is truly quality engineering as much as can be expected in our age of disposable everything. The turbo function actually works and works well. It's consistent, like a metronome. Albeit a super fast one. I've not tried it with hyperspin or mame yet, but it worked without any tinkering on snes9x. I've been playing Hyper Metroid, getting little work done, since it came in the mail. Turbo bombing up pipes at least half again as fast as I used to as a teenager with the best turbo controller of the time, which was an Ascii TurboPad. Beyond that, it's so fast, I've discovered a new technique, which is bombing my way laterally across ceilings. It's .. incredible. I highly recommend this controller. Logitech is still great. But this little gem is King for a retro snes clone.Read full review

With that being said this controller suffers from ghost inputs. A forum user changed a few capacitors and that seems to fix the issue but other than that it's perfect for old 8 and 16bit games in Emuelec which means its also great for Retroarch. The dpad is relatively good and the buttons are great. Unlike say a PS4 controller with long button travel this controller is more like a cross between an original NES and SNES controller. Good stuff

Buffalo makes the best controllers ever and this is no exception. Be advised that the D-pad on this controller is designed to perfectly register horizontal and vertical movements with no problem, but you need to press a bit harder for diagonal ones (contrarily to Buffalo Famicom controllers that are more sensitive to diagonal movements, but it's a bit harder to pull off purely horizontal or vertical ones).

This is a really reasonable reproduction of the original SNES pad. The autofire function is simple enough to use and clear, although it can sometimes be activated by accident. It's not 100% faithful in feel to the original SNES pad but as near as dammit and works instantly over USB. Certainly a lot better than the cheap nasty alternatives.
