The Audio-Technica AT897 condenser microphone is a state-of-the-art device that can pick up subtle sounds from its environment, while blocking out noise interference, such as handling, wind, and breath. An internal shock mount keeps noise from your hands away from your recordings during handheld use of the mic, while the windscreen shields the diaphragm from wind, breezes, and breathing sounds. This feature also offers some protection against popping sounds, such as “Ps” and “Ts” during speaking. This mic features a narrow acceptance angle. This means that the microphone picks up sounds at longer distances, but only directly in front of the basket. Off-axis audio from the sides and back of the mic do not easily bleed into the pickup. This model features a frequency response of 20 to 20,000 hertz, offering plenty of detail and depth. Low frequency sounds appear deep and textured without lots of rumbling, whereas high frequencies add color without excessive hissing. A low frequency roll-off switch keeps unwanted rumbling and humming at bay. The mic features an impedance of 200 ohms with phantom power and 300 ohms with battery power. Like most condenser microphones, this model requires a power source to keep it running. You can connect a phantom power source to the device or use 1.5 AA/UM3 batteries to power the electronic components.
