I bought this to replace my HDV camera - I wanted to get away from tapes but still have a high quality product with a viewfinder. This camera fits the bill. It shoots in full 1080p (my old tape camera was 1080i), and I can choose between using the screen or the color viewfinder. I like that once it is powered on with the power button I can then turn it on and off by either opening and shutting the viewfinder or the view screen - it lets me conserve battery between video shots. The battery life is okay, and the charge indicator works pretty well, showing a steady decline (unlike some cameras that display that you have half the charge and then all of a sudden tell you that it is out.) I'm still trying to get used to the zoom control - it isn't as easy to control as the one on my old Canon, but I assume I'll get used to it. The pull-out viewfinder is very clear, but it seems that I have to readjust the view control every time I push it in and pull it back out. Fortunately it is very easy to adjust and is not a problem. The menu system is so easy to use too! The touchscreen is very responsive. Like another viewer, I like that I can extend the zoom just a bit more digitally and it still has good quality. However, it also has more shake when I try to zoom that far, so I'm not sure it is worth it unless I am using a tripod. But in general the image stabilization works well. I probably have not used all the features yet but am very pleased with this camera!!Read full review
Although the HC-X900 was probably the best Panasonic hd camcorder ever made, this prior model is very close. It appears to have about the same good image, low-light sensitivity and manual controls. The physical glass is a tad smaller (filter size is 46mm vs 49) so ya have to assume it's a bit lower image quality. The menu controls are also a bit more primitive but give just about all that is needed. Used price is worth it when compared to new HD that lack the view finder and manual controls.

Very easy to use, looks great and loaded with lots of pro features. videos are high quality and easy to transfer from camera. It has a user friendly layout and fits good in my hand. the view finder is a nice feature that is getting left off many cameras.
I got this camera and the shoe adapter with Rode Mike and we are shooting in 20 mile an hour winds. You can hear the wind but my voice comes through loud and clear. Great low light and lens adaptability is awesome. Even the stills are quite impressive. Slow camera but great shots. So far the best small video cam I have ever had for working with my Green Eagles and paragliding students getting that great video to include 3D which I haven’t used yet.
I bought this camera as a replacement for my old JVC. When I searched the net I could see that the Panasonic Camcorder offered excellent value for the money I was prepared to spend. And I have not been disappointed. With it's many features you are always sure to get a good result and it's far superior to any camcorder I have tried before. I'm especially pleased with the viewfinder as it's my experience that the little screens that most popular camcorders are equiped with are extremely difficult to use in fx. strong sun light.
