Marie then turns to Jack (Christopher Plummer, Hanover Street), a family friend who seems to know what's troubling Ethel Ann but is reluctant to discuss the matter with Marie. Meanwhile, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, a retired firefighter named Quinlan (Pete Postlethwaite, The Usual Suspects) digs up the remains of a B-17 that crashed there in 1944. Helping him is an enthusiastic young man named Jimmy (Martin McCann), who discovers a ring inscribed with the names Teddy and Ethel Ann. The movie was not at all what I expected it to be but I wasn't disappointed in the storyline at all. I think certain scenes could have been taken out without taking away from the original intent. I was disappointed in the nudity. The actors and actresses did a fine job in portraying their parts. The war years were difficult years with so much personal loss. The movie shed light on the ways some people chose to handle their losses. The forties carry with it many secrets because the people who lived through those years kept many war experiences to themselves, suffering in silence for an entire lifetime. This movie reveals that fact. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in understanding some of the personal struggles of people in an era gone by and some of the hardships of WWII. I have known many people who could have written this story from their own experiences. It's definitely a personal drama that will be difficult to forget. I loved the characters and each artist played their roles well.Read full review
A story split in two, with each of the two also split into two. World War 2, love, death, injury, and choices made. Current day Northern Ireland-- again, love, death, injury, and choices made. Each story tells the other story, each thread intertwines until a handful of threads become a rope. In this case, an exceptionally strong rope, one that tells of the choices made, the way love is both the basis of life and how it interrupts life, how death is and is not part of life, and how injury both hurts us and makes us more alive. For the combat vet this story is tougher on them than on those who stayed home, but even those who stayed home feel pain and flight as the stories unfold. The warnings? It is emotionally intense, it has nudity, love, and although there are explosions, fire, damage, and death, the core of the movie is about life. Kind of tough to explain unless you've been through a war, I guess. Well worth watching.Read full review
This movie was based on World War 2 during the time my father was in World War 2 as a pilot I am sure i haven't seen it yet it will be always a legend as long as Christopher Plummer is in it but I rate it 💯 in excellent rating! Good service

It was a good movie, but the two nude scenes were unnecessary and didn't add anything to the movie. Should have been left out.
