Better than the recent series. A classic.

Recently bought and watched the Turturro television series on blu ray and enjoyed it. This was better. Stunning cinematography, larger scale, less padding (tv series wandered off the path and seemed not to know what to do with it’s extra running time), more satisfying ending and, for us at least, Connery and - especially Ron Perlman - carried the day compared to the series cast. Turturro was good. Connery was better. Everett’s restrained performance was interesting, an attempt to play Gui differently, but Abraham’s almost hysterical zeal was more alarming. The labyrinth might have been an area the more recent drama could have done more with, given effects and CGI advances, but the film managed this somewhat better. The girl is important only to the boy - the film made this plain; The TV ...

CHOOSE THE BLU-RAY FOR CLEAR PICTURE AND SOUND

I disliked this film, considering it to be only a few steps above an Indiana Jones film and similar to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. But I cannot fault the actors and producers. The basic story is extracted from Umberto Eco's long theological, historical novel of the same name which is highly respected.

  • Excellent film , ecstatic to get it in blue ray for a good price.

Beautiful movie starring the amazing Sean Connery. Filmed entirely in Italy, using local talent . It's one of my all time favorite films. It has a beautiful soundtrack as well. It's about an italian monk investigator, he has a young novice with him he is educating. He sent to an Italian abbey to investigate bizarre murder there. I highly recommend watching this film.

  • Excellent Film!

Hardly anyone knows about this movie.I think it's one of Sean Connery's greatest characters and performances. It has everything, mystery, romance, menace, horror, beautiful sets, great directing and most of all, top-rate performances. It's the first time I ever saw Ron Perlman. His makeup is realistic, I thought he was a real Hunchback. GET IT. You won't be disappointed!

I can imagine that real diehard Eco fans might be disappointed with what had to be stripped out translating from book to screen, but I’d argue it was necessary; the nature of the beastie. I developed an itch to see the film again and I’m happy I scratched that itch. I will note that a good deal of the material is dark and watching in too bright a room detracts. The Swedish-sourced Blu-ray played without a hitch.
