I've been a keen amateur photographer for 66 years and when with retirement came the opportunity to travel, I initially took a Point-and-shoot (Canon G7). However I needed a separate video camera as the 640 x 480 video resolution of the G7 was somewhat inadequate. Initially I took a D3100 DSLR, but found that too had limitations, so on my next few trips I took the D5100 with an 18-200 VR lens. Perfect! The D5100 is quite light compared to the pro Nikon metal bodies and the best bit is the swing-out screen, enabling great low-angle shots and video monitoring. Maximum picture is 16.2 Megapixels and the video is high Definition 1920 x 1080 (the same format as our HD TV).. As later models arrive, the price for the D5100 bodies is coming down nicely too! Recommended!

The Nikon D5100 is a 16 megapixel "pro-sumer" DSLR. It is step up from the basic D3XX series and I think is intended for enthusiastic amatuer photographers. It was brought out in 2011 but is still a very capable DSLR for both stills and video (1080p HD). You can pick one up cheaply now because it has been superceded by a couple of models with some bells and whistles like wi-fi and 24 megapixels but the basic camera is pretty much unchanged.

Quality product, great features. perfect camera for photograph enthusiastic.. the modification makes it easy to use the product. additional effect are perfectly set and provide the perfect photo. the rotatable screen makes it easier to get difficult angel shots.
Absolutely love this camera, Had an entry level one prior which i thought was good enough , but this thing is as sweet as. Simple too use in both auto mode as well as manual mode. The one thing i really adore is the physical size. It is not a big monster that leaves your shoulders a little stiff after carrying it all afternoon. Although i don't use the video mode as much as the still photo mode, it is very very handy and the result are very acceptable.
The Nikon D5100 is an amazing camera! It has so many different and interesting features that add a great effect to all your photos. This camera also takes such high quality pictures, that are so crystal clear it looks almost as if your starring at the real thing! It's pretty straight forward to use and has such good battery life. Not only does it have all the basic camera settings in high quaulity, it really has sooo much that you can do on it. Also filming on this camera is amazing! So clear n the sound is really good. The lense is also fantastic, and i love how you can rotate the screen in all angles to view photos whilst taking them, or if your filming. The price for this camera is defiantly worth it! I honestly have nothing bad to say about this camera.
