    Good for its intended purpose, not so much for improvised servers

    If you have a server that actually is compatible with this device, it works out quite well, and the drivers and software still work with modern Windows. That said, this isn't a good product for people making non-HP or even HP but not the model number in the compatibility list servers. You need to ignore the BIOS in newer firmware revisions (e.g. boot in non-legacy UEFI mode only) or else the machine will crash. Additionally, the firmware masks the individual drive information from the OS, so it's not suitable for UNRAID / ZFS / Storage Spaces.
