If you want to record onto cassette, (which admittedly is a bit of a novelty at this point) at the very least you wanna record on type 2 high bias tapes. Forget normal bias. Forget type 1. Those sound awful. These sound great, and if you can find 8 packs like this it’ll probably be the best bargain for your money. Plus I’m nostalgic for these particular solid grey nacelle cassettes from the 1990s.

The XLII is a dynamite blank tape. When I was in college, this was the formulation I used. Less expensive than metal, far better than standard bias. Almost like a CD if you use Dolby NR and set the recording level right. Highly recommended.
