smooth purchase, item is as advertised, the best drive possible at is age!
I bought this harddrive to upgrade an aged Dell Dimension 3000 to make it donation ready. Not only did the drive work well it did improve the speed and efficiency of the computer overall. Even at its age I was able to tell before and after testing that the drive was a good purchase. The computer was given to a non profit that donates computers and electronics to needy school systems and other private organizations. It was one of their better donations and this drive, a Seagate non the less, was the perfect adition. Solid make and performance even as an IDE ATA-100 type drive. Generally, these HDD are pretty resilient. I had this same exact model in an older desktop that I treated like a server (powered on 24/7 for about 2 years), and it only started showing signs of failure towards the end of its life. You can tell when this model is going to die by either clicking sounds (duh) or a high whining noise when the HDD powers off. IF you hear the whine, backup IMMEDIATELY! IF you hear the click, it's probably too late.Generally, these HDD are pretty resilient. excellent product, excellent price.
this drive was purchased to be used to temporarily store HD images during data recovery and computer repair. It is used in an external USB configuration and has performed flawlessly. Its from seagate which means its well designed and reliable. I know I can trust it to properly store the irreplaceable data during computer repair.

this review is pure stupid !!! every drive is a different story no matter who the manufacturer. it all depends on how it has been treated and how many hours it has of spin time.
