I got it used and thanks to a very good description before buying, I definitely knew what I was getting as a used device. Regarding the surface-book itself, it is a neat laptop and you can definitely use it as your everyday postgraduate studies. The fact that it has a graphics card in the base makes using Photoshop and a lot easier which you never can get it by a macbook pro. Battery life is awesome, I charge it overnight, go to campus without a charger, make notes and work on my codes and still at night I have 20% juice left. The most prominent down point is that the base connection port to the tablet is highly dust prone and if you do not clean it regularly, you are highly probable to lose the base graphics, USB ports and battery especially when you are at tablet mode.

I own a Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book base model is even way more powerful. Longer battery life, much better keyboard, 8 gigs of RAM and you can buy a Micro SD card to store all your stuff if you want. Super fast even without the expensive dGPU expensive models. Well worth the extra price. I love both my SP4 and SB, the SB is like a laptop with tablet capabilities and the SP4 is primarily a tablet with laptop capability. Choose what works best for you!

I have owned and currently own a lot of laptops and in terms of usability this is probably my new favorite. The heft feels just right for a premium laptop and the ability to use it as just a tablet is fantastic. If you are an artist in any field that can benefit from editing on a touchscreen this is my favorite device yet and has replaced my surface pro 3 in that regard. The keyboard is one of the best I have used and is way more comfortable than the new Macbooks which have abysmal travel distance in the keys compared to this and the touchpad still has physical clicks to it. The hinge is a little weird at first but after a day you realize how good it is compared to even the yoga hinges. Overall one of my new favorites.

The closest thing to a designed-for-Windows MacBook. Beautiful design, good battery life, and a great trackpad (possibly the most important thing on a laptop) combine into a wonderful experience. This quality comes at a premium but for someone who was tired of paying less for lesser experiences with Windows, it was completely worht the price.
