Shadows of the Damned places gamers in the role of demon-hunter Garcia Hotspur, to travel to hell -- literally -- on a quest to recover a lost love. Inspired by survival horror adventures, the game plays out in a psychologically twisted rendition of the underworld, but features extensive sequences of violent, fast-paced third-person shooting and combat, against seemingly limitless armies of soulless foes and grotesque monstrosities. The woman Garcia loves was stolen away, in retaliation for his demon-hunting ways. His only chance of saving her is to travel to the depths of the Abyss and bring her back himself. Clad in his outlaw biker gear and armed with a selection of upgradable, supernatural weapons, the hero shoots and slices through hordes of nightmarish attackers. At many points in his journey. Garcia must also solve perverse puzzles, using light to usurp the powers of hell's darkest evils. Shadows of the Damned was created by Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio headed by eccentric designer Goichi "Suda51" Suda. The game's creative producer is Shinji Mikami, creator of the Resident Evil series.

    Filled my craving!

    I used to have this game back when I was in my Xbox days (oh the old, naive days, what’re you gonna do?). Now that I’ve blossomed into my Sony stage where I belong, I needed to find this game again! Of course Amazon wanted my firstborn child -who I will have to wrench from the Xbox phase when they come of age- for it. This copy was half the price they were asking and it works like a dream. I’m very happy with my purchase of a cheap ride through nostalgia!

    Great underrated gem that the easily offended will want to avoid.

    Got it stolen from my game room a year or so ago, and I am happy to finally fill the void that was left behind. This is an underrated gem of the prior generation that I suggest everyone checks out. Unless, you are offended by crassness. Then you might want to pass. The gameplay is rather good, with a solid mix of gunplay and puzzle solving. The graphics are average, but they also have the uniqueness that comes with any Suda51 game. The story is pretty standard stuff, but the characters are all well defined and full of personality. The bosses all have a very unique look and feel, and are all quite well done. If you like memorable boss fights this is a game for you. The main villian is especially nasty and by the end of the game you really really want to kill him. The whole thing, in ...

    Great game. Would recommend if you like No More Heroes 1 or 2.

    If you like No More Heroes 1 or 2, you would love this game. I didn't beat it, yet but I had a blast playing it and I was impressed. Very good game, I love the art style and the humor is great. Its kind of hard, though just for you know. Also, has very dark and horrific themes that I enjoy very much.
