Canon Extender 1.4x II works great. It does give a longer focal length with 1 stop less speed, while remaining sharp with great AF performance. This version -II adds a rear dust seal. The Canon Extender 1.4x II. is as sharp as the main lens. No significant reduction in AF speed. Note: It comes with a special front cap with extra clearance for the protruding front optics, so don't lose it. Won't be easy to find another.

There are pros and cons to this extender. Yes, it's clear, sharp, and helps you reach out there for that picture you want. On the other hand, it ONLY works on Canon's L lenses and you lose an f-stop on your settings. I watched dozens of videos before finally deciding to buy one, and not one of those videos said anything about having to use an L lens. My mistake was in not double checking whether this Canon extender would work on my EF and EF-S lenses. Bought the extender from a private party who doesn't take returns (and never even bothered to respond to my request). I ended up spending even more money that I had not planned on spending and now I have a very nice, highly rated L lens that is F/2.8 which should improve my sports photography and everything else even more.

I highly recommend this for those shooting with a 1dxmk2, 1dx, 5dmk3, 5dmk4, 5ds, or 5dsr if you are a wildlife shooter. I wouldn’t recommend it on a crop sensor camera because the image quality loss will be more prevalent. I use this often on a 5dsr with a 400 f5.6 and the 180 f3.5 macro and with those lenses the quality is still amazing even with the teleconverter. On lesser lenses however the image quality is not quite as good and I wouldn’t recommend it. I would only recommend using a teleconverter for wildlife and macro with the 180mm macro. The additional reach is precious when you need to put as many pixels on your subject as possible

When this Canon lens arrived, it looked like a brand new lens shipped directly from Canon. It was immaculately clean, no issues with lens clarity. It connected to my camera and 400mm lens with no issues what so ever. Nice clear image. Now I can take all those bird and wildlife images I have been dreaming of.

Good converter at good price ( when bought used.) Works well with 90D w/ Canon 400mm zoom ( current model.) You have to understand that there's two inherent limitations. (1) f/stop is more limited, I believe no faster than f/8. (2) Limited to a single AF point.
