This is a really nice camera and relatively easy to use. I bought it primarily for video purposes because I shoot local bands and the other camera I have has a horrible microphone for loud shows, however, THIS camera picks up the sound great. My only complaint is that it won't let you shoot constant video but rather stops recording after around 10 minutes, making it difficult to shoot shows. The night vision function is great and really allows you to shoot in near total darkness - and you can switch to night mode while in the middle of a video shoot The electronic zoom isn't as nice as a manual zoom and takes a few seconds to focus, making videos a bit more difficult, but it does zoom in nice and close. A minor complaint that isn't really a complaint - it doesn't have threading around the lens itself to attach a filter to but rather it's got a huge bleeping lens hood, making it difficult to get effects filters such as a star cross or soft focus because they're so much more expensive for such a large thread. And the package came with a telephoto converter that doesn't fit the camera but is part of the camera suite.Read full review

I purchased this camera for the nighhtshot feature. It is a great all around camera for general purposes.. lightweight.. good lens.. great battery life.. nice zoom.. Very good image quality (IQ). You can't go wrong with this camera. The key feature for me is the nightshot capability. I use it to take pictures of wildlife.. flowers.. scenery.. architecture.. almost anything at night and / or in moonlight. The feature has given me some unusual photographs, I would otherwise never been able to capture without a tripod and an extremely long exposure. You can pick these up for next to nothing on EBay right now. I bought mine in mint condition for 30% of original retail. I own six cameras and the Sony H50 is a find. If you can get one.. try it.
This camera was bought as a back-up in case I wear out an identical one I have used reliably for several years. Everything is right about the DSC-H50. It has an excellent optical zoom, sufficient (9.1) megapixels, NIGHTSHOT for extremely lower light conditions, manual settings for those times when you feel creative and easy to operate automatic settings that take the guesswork out of it. The huge LCD with grid lines makes composition simple---with or without one's glasses, it's easy to see! This camera isn't overly large or heavy, yet it's solidly built. Great for beginners or professionals, outdoor photography or in the studio. I like this camera better than ANY other I've used! p.s. it even has a remote control! The self-timer is good, but nothing beats a remote for creative control.
The greatest digital auto focus camera I have found. It is easy to use and has up to 30 x zoom on the Camera itself along with the PMB picture editing software. I take it everywhere. I have had my original one for the last 3 years and I'm still fining features I havent used . This one I bought for my sister and would definitely reccommend it to you . Yuo can see the results in my online albums on Googles Picasa3 under My albums Kurt Kennedy
This has so many features but I mainly used it on auto and let it decide. The pictures were always excellent. It has a Zeiss lens and I found it was easier and took better pictures than those of people in my photo group who felt they had to have Nikons or Cannons...and struggled with complications. An amateur or a skilled photographer would both love this camera. You could also set it to a very narrow focus to see a bird in focus in the middle of a tree. It could capture drops of water in mid air absolutely clearly. I took a photo of El Capitain in Yosemite from about a half mile away from the base. I was able to later zoom in with software and capture climbers on the face who could not be seen at all in original photo.
