About this product

Product Information

Step into a magical world taken from the mind of the late, great composer, Frederic Chopin. Taking place in the final hours of the life of Chopin, Eternal Sonata for the PS3 transports you to a fantasy world of magic, mystery, music, and adventure. The characters switch between Chopin's dream world and the morose reality of his deathbed. Whether you're a fan of Chopin's music or a die-hard lover of role-playing video games, this PlayStation game is not to be missed. This PS3 game had a release date of October 2007 in North America. Eternal Sonata is a Bandai-Namco role-playing game for Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This version is specifically for the PS3 and features additional content exclusive to that console. This includes new costumes, new playable characters, and slightly altered dialogue throughout crucial cut scenes. The PS3 version of Eternal Sonata is a terrific choice for those looking to experience a unique and critically acclaimed video game that combines magic with timeless melodies. Nominated for Best RPG in 2007 by Spike Video Game Awards, Eternal Sonata on the PS3 is truly a one-of-a-kind adventure with a seemingly endless array of challenges. The cast is full of rich, diverse characters who are named after musical themes. Additionally, the heroes all have unique skills to use in combat. Following the typical role-playing style, you can lead a party of up to 12 interactive characters. Foremost among these is Polka, a young girl cursed with magic who meets Chopin in his dreams. Joining her is Allegretto, a thief with a heart of gold. The large cast also includes former prisoners, a prince, revolutionary soldiers, and spies. Together they must survive a story full of political espionage and rebellion. This PS3 game plays like many RPGs. You can explore the world, talk with its inhabitants, trade your equipment, and square off against monsters. For the latter, Eternal Sonata lets you experience a complex and combo-based battle system while using swords and magic weaponry. Enemies are visible on the field, and it is up to you to decide whether you want to engage with them. Once you are in a battle, you use Tactics Time to select your attacks. Each attack increases your Tactics Time and your Echoes meter, which lets you make use of your party's special skills. Pay close attention to light and dark areas, as your party's abilities are affected by these subtle changes. As for the art style, the anime-designed world and character art is sure to appeal to fans of that style. This PlayStation 3 game also includes educational cut scenes that feature real paintings and photographs instead of the usual cel-shaded technique. This unique approach to the art style sets this above other video games in its class. The PS3 is also more than capable of showing off the game's gorgeous, lush landscape design to its full potential. As for the soundtrack, it features a selection of Chopin's own musical scores as well as original compositions created just for the game. For those with a PlayStation 3 and a soft spot for RPGs, be sure to treat yourself to this enjoyable jewel among Namco Bandai games. After you embark on your adventure, you'll see why Eternal Sonata was nominated for a major RPG award.

Worthy RPG/JRPG game purchase for your PS3.

This is an underrated RPG gem in the PS3 library. If you like the JRPG genre, give this a try. The graphics might not be for everyone, very bright and anime type, but it's a really fun game.

  • Eternal Sonata

First play through is fairly easy and the game does not provide much of a challenge in terms of puzzles or quest. Second play through is much harder, regular battles if not at a high enough level will be tougher than even the most advanced bosses. Bonuses such as score pieces are a trivial distraction and status items/cures are not even practical to use. Overall the story line is a strange yet intriguing journey towards righteousness and justice. Advancing to Level 6, giving the group a max of 6 harmony chains is a must to complete the second play through. It also makes the game worth playing over again. Game has great voice overs and dialogue but needs more customization. The inability to control camera angles is a pain and a blessing in disguise. Near the last quarter of the ...

  • Wonderful to play, a great co-op experience.

I bought this game for my girlfriend to test the video-gaming waters and see how she would fare. Perhaps more by fortune than talent, I picked a game that fit the part perfectly. The battle system in Eternal Sonata is engaging but simple. It is a mixture of turned based and real time because each character takes a turn with a 5 second time limit to attack and move. When it's not a characters turn, they need to defend against enemy attacks by hitting a button at the right time. It was just complicated enough to feel tactical, while not being overwhelming. The story line is fantastic in this game. The characters each have very distinct characteristics that transform throughout the game. It doesn't take many twists and turns, but still retains a sense of interest. The ...

  • Frederick is in tha House!

Eternal Sonata is one of those games that delivers a refreshing twist to an already-outdone genre. When I first read that it was a RPG set in the dreams of the dying composer Chopin, I almost laughed. Such a crazy idea would never play out well! Or, will it? Firstly, I'm going to talk about the graphics. Eternal Sonata definitely impresses on just about every graphical level; the cutscenes rival the very best Disney movies, and the in game cell-shading in a real-time world is truly breathtaking. The atmosphere in this game is truly astounding, little details like light flourishes through tree canopies, and floating petals from flower fields...It truly comes together to make a spectacular, dreamy world to play in. A minor annoyance is that the camera is fixed, and thus there's ...
