Good camera for reviewing tapes, but battery (pack) not so good. Charge wears down
Camera seems to work fine -- at least to review tapes. I have not yet used it to record, though that was not my original intention anyway. I have several old tapes that I want to review before I have them converted to dvds and put on flash drives. Unfortunately the battery is not so good Contrary to the original statement, it does not hold a charge -- even after fully charged. In fact, it wears down much too quickly. So I am forced to buy a charger and two new batteries. I am guessing that the battery included with this ZR950 is old. By the way, I have two other ZR950s and both had mechanical issues. That is why I bought this one. So... it has been somewhat disappointing in terms of the battery pack. No charger was included in the purchase, and therefore I have an ongoing ... Camera seems to work fine -- at least to review tapes. I have not yet used it to record, though that was not my original intention anyway. Great cam for those who don't nit pick
This camera is decent. Don't be fooled by the USB port though. It is only used to transfer picture files, NOT video. There is a separate fire wire port for that. It takes nice video and has a decent mic for picking up audio. In a high volume setting like recording a live band it doesn't hold up very well. The audio get quite distorted. Also the "light" on this cam is not a light at all, it uses the flip out view finder with the LCD screen emitting a white "image" to produce the light. The battery lasts about as long as a 60 minute tape, so if you have a 90 min tape don't expect to use it in one taping session, unless you can find and extended battery. Overall these are things I wish I was able to find in other reviews, but never saw them so I figured I'd share. I plan on getting ... This camera is decent. Don't be fooled by the USB port though. Canon ZR 950
I bought the Canon ZR 950 three days ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this HD camera. It has a video and still picture capabilities. The ZR 950's size is perfect for carrying and the battery has a pretty good lifespan. My only complaint is that I dont have one. Overall, I'd recommend the camcorder if you're ready for capturing the action of life.
