If you use a Linux OS and have problems with your motherboard onboard sound chipset, then this is the soundcard for you. Right out of the box it's basically plug and play. Open up a terminal and type 'alsamixer' and you'll come face to face with a nice layout for the card, while having the ability to modify outputs, etc.

I bought this because my onboard sound card is not working. So price was right and the performance for the money. I can notice the difference between this card and the onboard card. However , I recommend a good pair of speakers to enjoy the card performance at 100% This is my first sound card and I like it. The only problem I found is with the drivers you need to install the custom drivers from this page. http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/ if you dont install this drivers this card doesnt work. Asus official drivers are really bad. Good buy like all the ASUS products.
I Purchased this sound card to replace a glitchy cheap one and to be honest, I didn't expect much due to the low price. However, This sound card is the best sound card I have ever heard! and I say this with over 25 years of building my own computers. I'm using an approximately 8 year old Altec Lansing ACS45 3 speaker system. and the sound is 10 times better than my 6 speaker surround sound system! Not only does it sound better, Its capable of higher volume without distortion! This sound card alone is excellent. Then add in the low price and you have a winner in my book.
I have not been able to get this card to install properly and work at all. It requires that you uninstall all other cards in your system. I use 6 sound cards in my system for broadcast purposes and need to keep them, so this card will not work for me.
